The Knights Templar, Baphomet, and the Horned Skull

700 years ago, an esoteric order of warrior monks, originally created to protect pilgrims travelling to the Holy Land were brutally wiped out by the French king, Philippe the Fair. In a bloody coup, most of the order including its grand master James of Morlay, were arrested.

Over the next seven years, the Templars were tortured by the inquisition into making false confessions of heresy, blasphemy and idolatry. This allowed the monarchy and papacy to unite in denouncing the order as devil-worshiping Satanists. One claim that seems to have been made repeatedly about the Templars is that they venerated a mysterious idol named Baphomet, but who, or what was Baphomet?

For two hundred years this highly secretive military group had operated from an extensive network of castles throughout Europe and the Middle East. They had both supported and been supported by a succession of Popes and monarchs, and held a unique position in medieval Europe, having been declared exempt from paying taxes and seemingly operating above the law.

During their relatively short existence, the Templars were said to have amassed immense wealth, possessing considerable assets in gold, land and property, which made them a popular source of financing amongst European nobility. Quite by accident they had become the worlds first international bankers; until that is, their organisation was destroyed by a greedy French king who thought that by destroying the Templars as an organisation, he would take possession of their wealth and the mysterious secret they were known to guard so closely.

As it was, at least some of the Templars were tipped off of the impending coup, one, Gerard de Villiers arranged for several galleons to be loaded with the Templars assets. Days before the fateful raid on Friday the thirteenth, 1307, the Templar fleet sailed from La Rochelle in Western France, half the ships allegedly heading for Scotland and the other for Portugal. Phillip was left empty handed and de Villiers, the highest ranking Templar to escape the witch hunt, simply vanished, as did the treasure, leaving Philippe nothing to seize but a handful of Knights in the Paris headquarters who had seemingly sacrificed themselves for what they must have considered to be the greater good.

By a strange twist of fate, nearly five hundred years later the French monarchy would meet its own end in that same Templar building, as the Paris Temple was where Louis XVI and his family were held prior to their execution.

A secret that has never been broken

In addition to their wealth, the Templars were also said to possess hidden knowledge; a powerful secret that had been discovered during the nine years the founding members spent excavating Temple Mount in Jerusalem.

There has been much speculation since their demise as to whether the mysterious secret that the Templars were said to possess was the source of their riches or something completely unrelated to their wealth. It is quite possible that the reason the Templar fleet sailed in two directions was a strategic one, separating the Templar wealth from the Templars mysterious secret.

Many commentators have pointed out that the Templars wealth came from donations, tax exemptions, spoils of war and money lending enterprises. Popular legends lean towards more exotic explanations as to what they had found, such as their having discovered the Holy Grail, Solomons treasure or the Ark of the Covenant, however there is little evidence to support those claims.

The Head of God

Author Keith Laidler suggests in his book The Head of God that the Templars actually found the embalmed head of Christ. It was this head that according to Laidler, the Templars supposedly worshipped as Baphomet. Indeed one of the admissions extracted under torture was that they did indeed worship a head that they considered sacred. Considered in isolation that claim has little merit, however at Rosslyn Chapel in Scotland, the location many believe houses the Templars treasure, an inscription on the so-called apprentice pillar reads, Here beneath this pillar lies the head of God. What exactly is this head of God? The public location of the inscription suggests that it is not physical wealth that is buried beneath Rossyln, but something with no tangible monetary value possibly a unique artefact of some description, something very special that had to be preserved.

There are two theories as to what exactly Baphomet was; the first is that Baphomet was the mysterious head that the Templars were said to worship, and the second is that Baphomet was a horned creature, loosely described as part man part goat, evidence of this creature can be found on several Templar buildings.

Carvings found on several medieval churches clearly show a horned creature with wings and a beard, which is a strange form of decoration for the self-proclaimed protectors of Christianity to use. Some researchers have suggested that rather than representing a demon the creature appears to be part man, part angel and that the horns may be symbolic of divinity and of a connection to God.

Furthermore, the carving suggest that the two theories, first that the Templars worshiped a head named Baphomet, and second that Baphomet was the horned creature depicted on so many of their churches, are two parts of the same truth. The Knights Templar worshipped a horned skull and that skull was Baphomet.

Is it possible that the founding Templars venerated a horned skull that they had discovered beneath Temple Mount? This horned skull was to all intents and purposes the head of God.

Whilst the idea of a horned skull might sound far-fetched, at least one such skull is known to exist in France, the home of the Templars. The precise origins of the skull are unknown, however those who have had the opportunity to examine it, state that it is authentic. There are also written accounts of other horned skulls, some allegedly belonging to a tall race of people that we would class as giants, being discovered in the US. This evidence from the US goes some way to validating the existence of the French skull. (See the resources list for more details) A similar horned figure, thought to be Asmodeus the demon of lust who helped Solomon build his temple, can be found in the church at Rennes le Chateau, in France. Rennes le Chateau is itself a location steeped in traditions of secret societies, occult symbolism, unexplained wealth and pentagonal geometry.

Clues in the Old Testament

Historians know that when the nine founding members undertook their excavation of Temple Mount they sought the assistance of Jewish Rabbis to translate Hebrew versions of the Old Testament rather than relying on their own Latin translations. In addition, the Templars were said to have studied many other ancient Hebrew texts. The popular explanation for this is that the Templars believed that the Hebrew texts contained hidden clues as to the whereabouts of the treasure concealed below Temple Mount; they obviously wanted to ensure that no fine details had been lost in the translation to Latin.

The Old Testament and texts such as the Book of Enoch do of course make several references to creatures such as the Nephilim, fallen angels and even horned men. According to some biblical legends, God marked his chosen followers with horns. Lamech for example realised he had killed his ancestor Cain, when his son told him his victim was a horned man. The horn or horns were said to be the mark of God. If the Templars did indeed find a horned skull buried beneath Temple Mount it is easy to see how they would reach the conclusion that they had discovered the remains of one of Gods original chosen men, one that predated Christ himself. Clearly this is something that the all powerful Catholic church would have been very unhappy with to say the least; it was a find that was too precious to ignore, but one that would put them at odds with the Catholic church itself and endanger their very existence.

Solomons Seal

Another symbol that features prominently in the Templar architecture and acts as a core symbol for the order is the pentagram; the symbol used as the seal of Jerusalem. The pentagram is often found on Templar gravestones like the one on the left. The facade of the Church of Santa Maria do Olival which houses the famous pantheon where 22 Master Templars were buried is marked by a pentagram balanced with an enormous rosette. In a guidebook, this symbol is referred to as the "Signum Salmonis, the true mark of the Knights Templars". Whether the fact that there are 22 Templar masters buried in Portugal is simply coincidence or whether there is an esoteric correlation between that and the 22 letters of the Hebrew letters, which according to the Kabbalistic text, the Sepher Yetzirah, were the origins of creation, and the 22 Master Templars is unknown; but might hint at the importance of the site and explain why when one fleet sailed to Scotland, the other was said to have headed for Portugal.

Dangerous Knowledge

The connections between the Templars and the number 22 also reveal themselves in the Atbrash Cipher. This is a common cabbalistic substitution cipher, where the 22 letters of Hebrew alphabet are laid out twice in opposite directions, each letter from the top row substituting for one on the lower. According to Dr. Hugh Schonfield, a respected Dead Sea Scrolls scholar, using this system the name Baphomet when written in Hebrew yields the name Sophia, the Gnostic goddess of wisdom.

The etymology Baphomet is uncertain; some sources suggest that in Arabic, Aramaic and Hebrew it translates as bet' amet, or place of truth. The root ba or bet is also very interesting as it is the same as the ba in Baal, meaning Lord. It is also likely to be linked to the meaning of Baal Shem the Masters of the Divine name. Additionally, according to legend, Bat Khol was the daughter of the Divine voice essentially the oracle of the Divine.

It seems possible that the Templars may have chosen the name Baphomet for the mysterious head that they worshipped because it represented a hidden and ancient source of divine knowledge. It was this knowledge that the Catholic Church may have struggled to integrate into their worldview and quite likely it would have been information that would have been suppressed by the church. In many ways Baphomet was a bitter sweet knowledge, one that promised the Templars a unique connection with God, a potential understanding of the truth but which would have placed them on a direct collision course with the Vatican, because no organisation could be closer to God than the Vatican and in particular, the pope.

Did the Templars really find a horned skull beneath Temple Mount? If they did it would certainly explain the horned symbolism of Baphomet that was incorporated into so many of their religious or semi-religious buildings. Baphomet may have represented physical proof of the legitimacy of the Old Testament and of Divine intervention in the affairs of man. A horned skull, something concealed within ancient biblical texts would represent the ultimate prize for an order such as the Templars, it would unite their dual quests for spiritual enlightenment and their duty as defenders of Christianity, but it is unlikely to have been accepted by the church; perhaps that explains why Baphomet is shrouded in such secrecy. - source

Flight 77 Black Box Shows Major Flaws in the Official Story

After several weeks of tireless efforts by pilotsfor911truth.org there has been a startling and very important discovery involving Flight 77.

The painstaking task of processing official data has resulted in a full "decode" of what the NTSB (US National Transportation Safety Board) claim to be the complete raw data output from the Flight Data Recorder of Flight 77.

Pilotsfor911truth have managed to achieve something that only some airlines, the military and one of the very few specialists in crash investigation in the world could normally carry out.

The ‘raw data file’ given out under FOIA request is more or less worthless unless you have access to very specialist software costing upwards of $100,000 USD.

Normally, the chances of a member of the public being able to ever get this type of file decoded are about 10000/1.
But these aren’t normal circumstances and obviously they weren’t counting on the `1` this time…..were they?

This data however has again produced more questions than answers, for example the data recording STOPS over a mile and a half from the Pentagon.

Raw data has confirmed the accuracy of the NTSB animation that was acquired by a truth group member under a FOIA request from the NTSB last August. This information is incredibly useful as it categorically shows that the plane was nowhere near the 5 light poles that were reportedly ripped from the ground by Flight 77 – a claim that appears in the Official 9/11 Commission Report.

Another astonishing discovery is that the data also confirms that the last figure of altitude given was 273 feet above ground level. (The pentagon is 71 feet tall). This is from radio altitude so it’s accurate to within just several feet.

The VOR (A data entry figure that is used to determine the distance from an object, in this case a transmitter at the Airport near the Pentagon) gives a last distance of 1.5 miles from F77 to the transmitter. Combine this information with the last figure of given altitude and also with speed of the plane (530 mph) and simply something just doesn’t add up.

At the speed the plane was moving this puts Flight 77 2 seconds away from the face of the Pentagon. At that point the height was such that the plane could NOT have nosedived fast enough to have hit the face of the building where that hole was seen: the gravity forces at the acceleration required would buckle and simply cause an airframe to break up.

Analysis is ongoing (the spreadsheet of data is about 4 million cells of data long) but it does confirm that the flight path does NOT match up to the damage leading up to the Pentagon.

Interestingly the path DOES match up to eyewitness testimony, some of whom saw two planes and cemetery workers have reported that they saw a jet fly over the Pentagon at the time of the blast.

(Eyewitness interviews have been released in a film called the PentaCON.)

NTSB’s Jim Ritter - who signed off the Flight 77 study – was contacted by pilotsfor911truth.org but he refuses to make any comment.

An FBI team named ‘PentBOM’ (who commandeered jurisdiction of the F77 issue from the NTSB) were also contacted. However, they too cannot make comment as the PentBOM team has since been disbanded. How convenient.
All the audio from these conversations was also recorded.

Another piece of truly hard evidence makes its way into the public domain and with gritty efforts like this we really can show that 911 Truth is in this for the long haul – until a new full and independent investigation is forced.

U.S. Doctor Smeared For Raising Drug Concerns

When a well-respected doctor raises concerns about the side effects of an important medicine, you'd expect drug safety officials to investigate. Instead, a spokesman for the US Food and Drug Administration is alleged to have chosen a different strategy: smearing the doctor in question.

Steve Nissen, chair of cardiovascular medicine at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, investigated the safety of the diabetes drug Avandia, in a study published in The New England Journal of Medicine this March. Avandia is approved by the FDA, but Nissen found that it significantly increased the risk of heart attack. It was the latest blow to the FDA, which has been repeatedly criticised for failing to spot dangerous side effects.

According to ABC News, FDA spokesman Douglas Arbesfeld emailed health reporters drawing attention to a blog that accuses Nissen of focusing his criticism on drug manufacturers that do not run trials at the Cleveland Clinic - a charge Nissen rejects. The FDA declined to comment. - source

Pentagon Confirms It Sought To Build 'Gay Bomb'

A Berkeley watchdog organization that tracks military spending said it uncovered a strange U.S. military proposal to create a hormone bomb that could purportedly turn enemy soldiers into homosexuals and make them more interested in sex than fighting.

Pentagon officials on Friday confirmed to CBS 5 that military leaders had considered, and then subsquently rejected, building the so-called "Gay Bomb."

Edward Hammond, of Berkeley's Sunshine Project, had used the Freedom of Information Act to obtain a copy of the proposal from the Air Force's Wright Laboratory in Dayton, Ohio.

As part of a military effort to develop non-lethal weapons, the proposal suggested, "One distasteful but completely non-lethal example would be strong aphrodisiacs, especially if the chemical also caused homosexual behavior."

The documents show the Air Force lab asked for $7.5 million to develop such a chemical weapon.

"The Ohio Air Force lab proposed that a bomb be developed that contained a chemical that would cause enemy soldiers to become gay, and to have their units break down because all their soldiers became irresistably attractive to one another," Hammond said after reviewing the documents.

"The notion was that a chemical that would probably be pleasant in the human body in low quantities could be identified, and by virtue of either breathing or having their skin exposed to this chemical, the notion was that soliders would become gay," explained Hammond.

The Pentagon told CBS 5 that the proposal was made by the Air Force in 1994.

"The Department of Defense is committed to identifying, researching and developing non-lethal weapons that will support our men and women in uniform," said a DOD spokesperson, who indicated that the "gay bomb" idea was quickly dismissed.

However, Hammond said the government records he obtained suggest the military gave the plan much stronger consideration than it has acknowledged.

"The truth of the matter is it would have never come to my attention if it was dismissed at the time it was proposed," he said. "In fact, the Pentagon has used it repeatedly and subsequently in an effort to promote non-lethal weapons, and in fact they submitted it to the highest scientific review body in the country for them to consider."

Military officials insisted Friday to CBS 5 that they are not currently working on any such idea and that the past plan was abandoned.

Gay community leaders in California said Friday that they found the notion of a "gay bomb" both offensive and almost laughable at the same time.

"Throughout history we have had so many brave men and women who are gay and lesbian serving the military with distinction," said Geoff Kors of Equality California. "So, it's just offensive that they think by turning people gay that the other military would be incapable of doing their job. And its absurd because there's so much medical data that shows that sexual orientation is immutable and cannot be changed." - source

Professor Steven Jones presented brand new and compelling evidence for the controlled demolition of the twin towers and WTC 7 recently, but the 9/11 debunkers and the corporate media are loathe to tackle it because it represents a slam dunk on proving the collapse of the buildings was a deliberate act of arson.

During a talk at the Rebuilding America's Senses event at the University of Texas last month, Jones laid out facts about steel samples recovered from the WTC site that Popular Mechanics dare not even attempt to debate. Debunkers are scared to even get near this information because the science behind it fundamentally contradicts the official story of what happened on 9/11.

Jones detailed his lab experiments in which he attempted to replicate NIST's conclusion that the lava like orange material flowing out of the south tower is aluminum from Flight 175, the plane that hit the building. Jones clearly documents the fact that liquid aluminum is silver and not orange as is seen in the video of the south tower, therefore the material cannot be aluminum. Jones then explains that the material is in fact a compound that can cut through steel like a hot knife through butter, thermite with sulphur added to make thermate.

The crux of the fresh evidence revolves around newly uncovered globules or spheres that were discovered at the WTC site that Professor Jones was able to obtain and run a electron microscope analysis on.

The spheres contained iron and aluminum, which would be expected in any steel sample, but also sulphur which is a by-product of a thermate reaction.

So having moved from a hypothesis that thermate was used to bring down the towers from using video footage and debunking the aluminum explanation of NIST, Jones now has empirical scientific proof, undertaken under laboratory conditions, that thermate was indeed used as an artificial explosive at the World Trade Center.

It has now been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that the collapse of the twin towers and WTC 7 was an act of deliberate arson and not as a result of fires from crashing planes.

Jones' evidence offers no other conclusion that insiders planted thermite devices within the buildings to literally pulverize the supporting columns and cause the collapse of the towers and also WTC 7. Debunkers have uniformly failed to address the existence of thermite and also molten metal at the ground zero site because they cannot dismiss the scientific proof, and are forced to resort to ad hominem insults and smears.

We are issuing a challenge to Popular Mechanics to rebut Professor Jones' analysis of the sphere samples and the clear evidence of thermate at the World Trade Center. Address the focused scientific proof without resorting to ad hominem attacks or straying off topic.

Collect your children and run for cover. Today we're going to look at the terrifying tale that says a race of tall reptilian beings lives among us, and even runs our government.

The concept of reptilian beings on Earth is a surprisingly widespread conspiracy theory, in which the US government and major public companies are complicit in a vast worldwide network of underground bases housing a large population of humanoid reptilian creatures called Reptoids. They speak English and are involved in every major government and corporate decision. They are variously said to either disguise themselves or actually shape-shift into humans, where they have public lives in positions of national importance. Some say the Reptoids are of extraterrestrial origin, and some say they are native to Earth, having developed intelligence before the primates, and have been secretly running things all along.

I first heard of reptilians when planning a trip to Mt. Shasta as a youth. Shasta is one of our fourteeners here in California. As I discovered, it's also something of a sacred hotbed for a whole range of New Age traditions. It not only has a lot of Native American spiritual history, it also figures prominently for any number of modern pagan religions. Shasta is said to be full of secret caverns, jewel encrusted tunnels, and whole subterranean civilizations peopled with all sorts of exotic races. Most notably, it's the home of the Lemurians, an ancient race whose original continent called Mu sank and now make their home inside the mountain, in the great five-level city of Telos. Lemurians, who are tall, white-cloaked beings speaking English but with a British accent, employ invisible four-foot-tall beings called Guardians to protect their city. Bigfoots are also said to populate Shasta. Among all this exotic company, Reptoids would hardly be noticed. The story goes that Reptoids use Mt. Shasta as one of the numerous entrances to their huge underground network of bases.

Reptoids are said to serve at least one very useful purpose: They are sworn enemies of the gray aliens, and may well serve to be humanity's last line of defense against this threat. Among the gray aliens' holdings provided them by the US government is a large underground base at Dulce, New Mexico. Some 18,000 grays are said to reside on level 5 of the base, and they perform terrible genetic experiments on humans on levels 6 and 7. Reptilian beings have been caught trying to acquire information about the Dulce base.

The most outspoken proponent of the conspiracy theory that reptilian beings in disguise are actually running our planet is David Ickes, whose book "The Biggest Secret" reveals information like this:

Then there are the experiences of Cathy O'Brien, the mind controlled slave of the United States government for more than 25 years... She was sexually abused as a child and as an adult by a stream of famous people named in her book. Among them were the US Presidents, Gerald Ford, Bill Clinton and, most appallingly, George Bush, a major player in the Brotherhood, as my books and others have long exposed. It was Bush, a pedophile and serial killer, who regularly abused and raped Cathy's daughter, Kelly O'Brien, as a toddler before her mother's courageous exposure of these staggering events forced the authorities to remove Kelly from the mind control programme known as Project Monarch.

This is a fair sample of most of Ickes' evidence that reptilian beings have taken over our government. Virtually any statement that Ickes makes is easily falsified by minimal research if not simple common sense, but since his is a conspiracy theory, any evidence against it is simply regarded as evidence proving the conspiracy. Don't laugh: Ickes sells a lot of these books. A lot of people believe this stuff.

Where did all of these stories come from? The earliest reference I've come across is from a Los Angeles Times news story from January 29, 1934, which is available from the Los Angeles Times archives. Geophysical mining engineer G. Warren Shufelt had been using "radio x-ray" and had discovered subterranean labyrinths beneath the city of Los Angeles, including pockets of pure gold, and taken x-ray pictures of many of the chambers. Somehow Shufelt met with a man named L. Macklin, said to go by the Hopi Indian name of Little Chief Greenleaf. Macklin told Shufelt of a Hopi legend of Lizard People, an advanced race, who built the city beneath Los Angeles to escape surface catastrophes some 5000 years ago. Their history was kept on gold tablets. It sounded like Shufelt had struck paydirt — almost. He still had to dig it up. Shufelt's crew dug a shaft 250 feet deep, well below the water table, which of course promptly filled with water, and that's where the story came to an end.

So I began looking into the various elements from the LA Times story. First on the list was Shufelt's "radio x-ray" device. Times reporter Jean Bosquet described it:

Shufelt's radio device consists chiefly of a cylindrical glass case inside which a plummet attached to a copper wire held by the engineer sways continually, pointing, he asserts, toward minerals or tunnels below the surface of the ground, and then revolves when over the mineral or swings in prolongation of the tunnel when above the excavation.

So, it turns out, Shufelt's device has little to do with either radio or x-rays and more to do with a common dowsing pendulum. This was all he had to guide his elaborate drawing of the catacomb layout, which you can see online at Skeptoid.com, along with a picture of Shufelt using his dowsing pendulum.

Shufelt stated he has taken "x-ray pictures" of thirty seven such tablets, three of which have their southwest corners cut off. "My radio x-ray pictures of tunnels and rooms, which are subsurface voids, and of gold pictures with perfect corners, sides and ends, are scientific proof of their existence," Shufelt said.

Shufelt's dowsing results notwithstanding, parts of the story seem unlikely. Gold, and metallurgy in general, was unknown among the Hopi until the mid 1700's. So was chemistry, but Macklin said that the Lizard People "perfected a chemical solution by which they bored underground without removing earth and rock."

I did make a pretty thorough effort to track down any such Hopi legend, but came up empty handed, not counting numerous modern references to Mt. Shasta and the Los Angeles catacomb story. I did find a "Lizard clan" referenced in several Hopi stories, but always among other clans (the Spider clan, the Bear clan), and never any references to underground cities, golden tablets, or any other elements from Shufelt's story. Obviously, my failure to find any evidence of such a legend doesn't prove anything: Native American legends were traditionally passed by word of mouth and never were written down, the only exceptions being those that made it into modern storybook collections. I was also unable to find a man named either L. Macklin or Little Chief Greenleaf in the public birth and death certificate databases for the Hopi Reservation in the Navajo Nation Court, but again, all this proves is that I didn't find it.

If Shufelt's dowsing misadventures truly were the genesis of modern Reptoid legends, there is an ironic aspect. Macklin never said that there was anything reptilian about the Lizard clan, they were simply one subculture of the Hopi, though just as human as anyone else. According to the story Macklin told Shufelt:

The Lizard People, the legend has it, regarded the lizard as the symbol of long life. Their city is laid out like a lizard, according to the legend, its tail to the southwest ... its head to the northeast.

Most likely, this tall tale from the early days of Los Angeles was little more than an effort by Shufelt to interest investors in his treasure hunt, in which he no doubt believed wholeheartedly. As for Macklin? Who knows, Shufelt could have made him up, or he could have been a real guy, possibly even a real Hopi, and may have even told a genuine — if undocumented — Hopi legend. What Shufelt didn't know was that his little gem in the Los Angeles Times was the kickoff for a whole generation of one of our most bizarre (and entertaining) urban legends. - source

Who is John Lear? He is a retired airline captain with over 19,000 hours of flight time. He is the son of Lear Jet inventor, Bill Lear. He has flown over 100 different types of planes in 60 different countries. John holds 17 aviation world records. His accomplishments are too numerous to mention here such as: He was the youngest American to climb the Matterhorn in 1959. LEAR FLEW SECRET MISSIONS FOR THE CIA in Central and Southest Asia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa between 1966 and 1983. In 1988, John met Bob Lazar; the scientist/physicist who worked on back-engineering of ET saucers at S-4 near the infamous Area 51. In March 1989, Lazar took Lear to a section of Rachel Nevada where they observed the flight of a flying saucer at the exact time Lazar told him it would occur. Two weeks later during more UFO spying, security forces caught Lear, Lazar and 3 others. The next day, Lazar lost his job with the Government for this breach of security. The following conversation to Art Bell is not unlike Xerox copies I received more than 20 years ago. The pages blew my mind and were from John Lear. They told of Roswell details like 'human body parts' found inside the crashed spaceship; EBE, the captured grey alien; the Zeta Reticuli Agenda; William Cooper and the DEAL our military/governments have with the grey Zetas were all mentioned in these papers. These were secrets that ring true. The following delves into the same secrets that are kept from the public. Lear expresses new information here. People interested in conspiracy theories and UFOs will really enjoy this. Is this a RUMOR passed down through decades believed by fanatics? Or, did these events actually happen?

This extraordinary info came to me in an e-mail from screen-name Tomorrow Alora. Lear is speaking to Art Bell. I add my own commentary within the parentheses as a researcher of various mysteries:

...So here's what happened, Art. Our first UFO recoveries were in the late '30s. We made a couple in the beginning of the '40s and then came Roswell, which the public found out about. We got 2 live aliens from Roswell. One died shortly thereafter and one lived till 1956. And we found out so far there are 18 different alien species that we know about monitoring Earth. Some are good some are hostile, most are indifferent. We found out that we are the Experimental product, if you will, of an alien race who we never met and we don't know who they are. All we know is the Greys are cybernetic organisms, glorified robots, who work here at the behest of their employers monitoring us through abductions. We were never able to find out what the Experiment was all about except that we have been externally corrected about 65 times. And they, the aliens, refer to us as 'containers.' There's been speculation that the SOULS our bodies contain are the reason for the Experiment or abductions. (I do not believe for one second that 'aliens' created us because that compltely conflicts with my 30 years of studying the ancient mysteries. My conclusions, posted in a number of articles, show that very ADVANCED HUMANS created or cloned us. Now, why would these invaders lie? Because it is their military strategy. They are the real enemy; initially captured behind enemy lines. If they said they were God, then we might consider them deities. It is their way of controlling us, very similar to the Imperial protocols of our Earthly monarchies).

Since 1938, we've lost over 200 aircraft due to UFO hostilities and thousands of soldiers in all kinds of actions with aliens. Since that time, several hundred thousand civilians have disappeared with no trace. Several thousand of those were eliminated (killed) by us because of their chance encounters with the aliens which we could ill afford to have publicized.

A slightly more frightening phenomena known as 'human mutilations' have occurred on a regular basis and are similar to cattle mutilations. Humans are taken from the street, so to speak, and returned to the same area later with their rectums cored out, their genitals removed, eyes removed and completely drained of blood. In all cases, it appeared that the mutilation procedures occurred while the persons were still alive and conscious. One of our scientists speculates that apparently the human specimens had to be alive for the samples to be worth anything. Abductions occur on a daily basis throughout the U.S. to at least 10% of the population. (There certainly have been many, many alien abductions. But, more than 10% of our entire population! That cannot be an accurate number).

When we were first made aware of this, we protested to the little grey being we had held in captivity at the YY-2 facility in Los Alamos. But, a DEAL was struck that in exchange for advanced technology from the aliens we would allow them to abduct a very small number of persons and we would periodically be given a list of those persons abducted. We got something less than the technology we bargained for and found the abductions exceeded by a million fold than what we had naively agreed to. (Spielberg's 'ET: The Extraterrestrial' could easily have been inspired by EBE, which stood for Extraterrestrial Biological Entity. This was the official name for the live, grey alien captured at Roswell. ET the movie was propaganda. The Greys are not cuddly, sweet aliens. The truth is there is an invisible WAR with these blood-suckers. The truth is the planet is secretly UNITED in peace; wars are bogus and the real enemy are the Zeta Greys who treat us no better than lab rats).

In 1954, President Eisenhower met with a representative of another alien species at Muroc Test Center, which is now called Edwards Air Force Base. This alien suggested that they could halp us get rid of the Greys, but Eisenhower turned down their offer because they offered no technology.(Huge mistake. Ike was a war-hero and made military decisions during his presidency).

At this point, it became apparent to all involved that there was no such thing as God, at least how the public perceives God. Certainly some form of computer recorder stores information and an occasional miracle is displayed by the aliens to influence a religious event. (The miracle of Fatima, to mention one). This so unnerved Eisenhower that he had 'In God We Trust' put on paper money and coins and put it in the Pledge of Allegiance to reaffirm the public belief in God. Shortly after this, it was determined in meetings between the U.S. and the Russians that the situation was serious enough that a COLD WAR should be manufactured as a ruse to divert attention away from UFOs and towards some other scary threat like the H-Bomb. It was also decided to keep the ruse secret from any elected or appointed officials within both the U.S. and USSR governments. It was decided that the ruse was easier to manage if the top people didn't know about it. (In the short-lived TV series 'Dark Skies,' the character of John Loengard wondered why there was a Cuban Missile Crisis. An alien presence should UNITE the countries of Earth; instead there was a Cold War). (And, on the question of No God, the top religious leaders are Freemasons. They are trained on the reality of No God and secret teachings, yet provide the masses with the illusion of religion. In the Middle Ages, Templars built the churches, owned the banks and started wars. In secret rituals, Templars were forced to deny Christ by stepping on the cross...yet they were the ones in charge of the churches. Little has changed today with the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. The highest religious officials are humanists who secretly deny God).

In the late '50s NASA was formed to compartmentalize, containerize and sanitize data from all space platforms and vehicles. We sold NASA to the public claiming that all info would belong to the people. But, they got very little and even that was sanitized. (NASA was never for us. It is a front. Incredible things have been going on in our Solar System that are known to Earthly Powers That Be and not known to us).

Our first efforts were to keep the public from learning about VENUS. A very similar planet to Earth and its population is very similar to us, just technologically advanced. We learned a lot starting with the Russian Venera 1 and U.S. Mariner 2. We made Venus look like a lead-melting, volcanic surface; spewing sulfuric acid into a pressurized atmosphere 90 times that of Earth. And as often the case, we over did it and we wondered why nobody asked how a parachute survived a descent into 800-degree air. (My article 'Life Inside Venus?' can be found on a few websites. I have been complimented and ridiculed for it. I was pen-pals with Arthur Matthews before he died in 1986. Arthur may have been Nikola Tesla's son as I have speculated in a piece called 'Son of Tesla.' Arthur was the last man to work with the great inventor and co-wrote a book with him called 'The Wall of Light.' He claimed that Venusians landed on his property in Canada and informed him that the genius Tesla was one of them! It is very interesting to hear this unrelated source mention people from Venus with advanced technology. If Arthur's claims were true, it is understandable that one of these high-tech humans from Venus came here and became the greatest inventor of all time. Was Tesla the inspiration for Superman? There are conflicting views concerning Venus. A PBS Nova Special on TV reported that mysterious Venus NEVER had lava flows. Instead, it has the most intense cratering in the Solar System. That means there was no resurfacing on Venus; it is super ancient and there was no movement whatsoever on the surface. Then, there are other reports and pictures of volcanic eruptions [?] Something very strange is indeed going on with the second planet. We cannot rely on our authorities to ever tell us the truth).

When the bogus Russian threat began to fade, we introduced Vietnam which kept the public occupied for over 10 years. The cover-up and personnel to run the operation began to get bigger and bigger and required more and more money. We were forced to inflate the Defense budget. Then we got into the drug business...

Go ahead and roll the tape for Mr. Bell. What you see here are what human mutilations look like. That one was a male about 17 years old. That one is a film of dead aliens being pulled from the wreckage of a craft that crashed in Olancha, CA. in the '50s. The craft you see over there was over 250 feet in diameter and had to be buried on the spot. That site is in Utah near the Dugway Proving Grounds. The object you're looking at now is the Kecksburg Acorn which was brought to Wright-Patterson AFB in the middle '60s. (I actually saw the Kecksburg UFO streak across the Pittsburgh sky one December evening in 1965! Paul Hunt, of the Atlantis Bookstore in Burbank, believes the Kecksburg UFO was a controlled 'life-pod.') There's Frank Drake trying to force information out of a being tied down to a stretcher. He was supposedly from Tau Ceti. (Tau Ceti is a yellow star much like our sun).

These pictures you're looking at now are structures on the Moon. That's the tower in Sinas Medii and it's over 7 miles tall. And that thing over there is what we call the Colossus of Oguram in Mare Crisium. We don't know what it does but the machine itself is bigger than Brooklyn, NY. (In an article called 'Who Stops to Question the Man in the Moon?' I examine the extreme oddity that one side of our satellite ALWAYS faces the Earth; that 'gravity-lock' is a myth and the Earth/Moon relationship is totally unnatural. I theorized that some lunar device must compensate for natural forces that should make us observe the far side of the Moon. Is the Colossus in the Sea of Crisis the mechanism?) Now those are videos of the domes covering the craters. As you can see, some are in a very advanced state of decay. (Another controversial article I wrote is called 'Secret Bases on the Moon and Mars.' We are not allowed to PUBLICLY go back to the Moon or reach Mars. The recent success on Mars was a bogus dog and pony show; a sanitized public display and nowhere near what we really know about Mars. Our masters are not going to ever reveal the Big Lie. For decades our tax dollars have been paying for secret installations, yet the public never benefits from these black projects. We, the people, are kept in the dark and in the Dark Ages, technologically).

There are 5 slides of the 18 different alien species we are looking at. That one there is the most gruesome looking. The guars at one facility are carefully indoctrinated over several months being shown alien pictures. We had two guards die of heart attacks as aliens came down a hallway unexpectedly. (I read about a teleporter project our Govenment has like TV's 'Stargate.' One report told of a horrible-creature that appeared on this end. It ate people and was immediately killed!)

And this last clip is of the Kennedy assassination. This is a second camera that recorded exactly what happened and we had 4 gunman. (One shooter was the driver of Kennedy's limo; CIA agent William Greer. The unedited version of the Zapruder film shows him turn and fire at the President. JFK's brains were blown back. Jacky Kennedy could be seen running for her life out the back of the limo. A Secret Service agent pushed her back into the car). And the bottom line was that JFK had to go. He insisted on releasing what little alien information we had told him about and he was trying to withdraw troops from Vietnam which we were using as a diversion. After Kennedy, we never told any President anything. Nixon knew because he was briefed as Vice President in 1952. That's how we knew to take Jacky Gleason to Homestead AFB to see the alien bodies we had in storage there. (I wrote an article called 'Was JFK Killed Because of Roswell?' This seemed resonable. It was satisfying to read Lear's Briefing since I wrote the article without references. I had never heard anyone else ever speculate on this reason for the killing of Kennedy. The Zeta Reticulan Greys would be far above Top Secret Classified info. Many people have been murdered because of the dirty, little secrets that world governments want SECRET. James Forrestal, Secretary of State in the '50s was the only member of MJ-12 that wanted the public to know the truth about the aliens. He was thrown out of a Bethesda Naval Hospital window to his death. Reporter and TV personality Dorothy Kilgallen was also murdered. She had exclusive rights to interview Jack Ruby and was getting close to the truth. Was Marilyn Monroe killed for the same reason? William Cooper was also murdered by feds because of his controversial books and lectures. The first truth stated here got Giordano Bruno burned at the stake in 1600 for daring to propose that it was real. The second truth has gotten FAR more people killed. But the truth must be told. The fact that the Earth revolves around the sun was successfully suppressed by the Church for over 200 years. It eventually caused a major upheaval in the Church, Government and in thought. We must again face the shocking facts; the 'horrible truth' the Government has been hiding from us for over 40 years. Our Government, in an effort to protect Democracy, has sold us to the aliens!

Before I begin, I'd like to offer a word in the defense of those who bargained us away. They had the best of intentions. (I am not telling people to believe 100% of the John Lear material. It is interesting that this man who has whistle-blowed and exposed so much will still defend these federal bastards. Consider the source. Lear was CIA. The CIA is behind all dealings with the aliens. The CIA covertly murders. THE CIA WAS CREATED POST WW2 AS A DIRECT RESULT OF ROSWELL! The CIA knows all about the phoniness of the Cold War and that there is really only one enemy in town. That enemy is certain aliens. It's hard to believe Lear defends our leaders. Get it straight, John. Is MJ-12 a group of criminals or are they heroes? The CIA has long infiltrated UFO organizations. The reason is the UFO conspiracy and cover-ups are the largest TOP SECRETS that exist. Many smaller conspiracies all stem from the larger Alien Conspiracy. I appreciate real patriots and whistle-blowers that risk everything in order to cast light on the incredible truth. I do not credit these world leaders that continue to lie to the public and suppress the truth. The only reason I thought it wise to add commentary is I could not support 100% of this material. I do believe 90% of it as real events that jive with many other independent sources. Given the dis-info, this info here is amazing).

Germany may have recovered a flying saucer as early as 1939. General James H. Doolittle went to Sweden in 1946 to inspect a flying saucer that had crashed there in Spitzbergen. The horrible truth was known to only a very few persons. The little creatures looked like praying mantises and they were MUCH more advanced than us...

Of the original group that was first to learn of the aliens, several committed suicide. The most prominent of which was General James V. Forrestal who jumped to his death from a 16th story hospital window. Forrestal's medical records are sealed to this day. (Here is another story that the CIA has fudged. Jim Forrestal may not have killed himself, but the party line is that he did kill himself. He may have been forced into suicide by MK-ULTRA methods. This Secretary of State wanted the existence of the aliens disclosed to the public. The same reason Forrestal MAY HAVE been killed COULD have been the reason JFK was also murdered).

President Truman quickly put a lid on the secret and turned the screws so tight that the general public still thinks that flying saucers are a joke. In 1947, Truman established a group of top military and scientific personnel of their time. They were known as MJ-12. (Majority-12 or is it Majestic-12?) Although the group exists today, none of the original members are still alive. The last one to die was Gordon Gray, former Secretary to the Army, in 1984. As each member passed away, the group itself appoints a new member to its position. There is some speculation that MJ-12 expanded to at least several more members.

There were more saucer crashes in the late '40s: The one in Roswell, New Mexico and the one near Laredo, Texas about 30 miles from the Mexican border.

Consider the position of the U.S. Government at that time. They proudly thought of themselves as the most powerful nation on Earth, having recently produced the atomic bomb; an event so stupendous, it would take Russia 4 years to catch up, and only with the help of traitors to Democracy. (Again, I believe this is an example of disinformation here among all the truth. According to Jordan Maxwell an expert on Secret Societies and info gleaned from studying such things: The cover story was we'd blame it on the Rosenberg spies and label them as traitors to America. The truth, kept from the public, is a secret Third Power [Illuminati] controls both sides; East and West. THEY have always controlled East and West as was done during the bogus Cold War. The Russians were GIVEN the A-Bomb for balance and to spread a false sense of fear in the world. Wars have always been for the purpose of increasing our secret fascist's control over us. The purpose of wars in the second half of last century was to take us away from the real war with the aliens).

...What was it like for those all who had witnessed the panic of Orson Wells' radiobroadcast 'The War of the Worlds' in 1938? Imagine their horror as they viewed the dead bodies of these frightening looking little creatures with enormous eyes, reptilian skin and claws for fingers. Imagine their shock as they attempted to determine how these strange 'saucers' were powered. They discovered no part remotely similar to what they were familiar with... It is only when you fully understand the overwhelming helplessness the Government was faced with in the late '40s that you can comprehend their perceived need for a total, thorough and sweeping cover-up. (No way would I depict these men as heroic figures who HAD to do what they did. I do not condone cover-ups that keep the people in ignorance. Their 'NEED' for a sweeping cover-up, is that what Lear is asking us to believe? Hogwash. How about not murdering the innocent? How about the need for people to know what is really going on?)

In July 1952, a panicked Government watched helplessly as a squadron of 'flying saucers' flew over Washington D.C. and buzzed the White House, the Capital Building and the Pentagon. It took all the imagination and intimidation the Government could muster to force that incident out of the memory of the public.

On April 30, 1964, the first real communication between these aliens and the U.S. Government took place in Holloman AFB in New Mexico. Three saucers landed at a prearranged area and a meeting was held between the aliens and federal officers during the period of 1969 -1971. MJ-12 representing the U.S., made a DEAL (with the Devil). The deal was that in exchange for technology that they would provide to us, we agreed to 'ignore' the abductions that were going on and suppress information on the cattle mutilations. (The deal-for-technology was written in William Cooper's book 'Behold a Pale Horse' and might have been the reason for his murder. Alien tech covertly given to world leaders was also mentioned in Major Corso's deathbed book).

The EBEs (grey Zeta Reticulans) assured MJ-12 that the abductions [usually lasting about 2 hours] were merely the ongoing monitoring of developing civilizations. In fact, the real purposes for the abductions turned out to be for:

1) The insertion of a 3mm, spherical device through the nasal cavity and into the brain of the abductee. The device is used for the biological monitoring, tracking and control of the abductee.

2) Implementation of Post Hypnotic Suggestion to carry out a specific activity during a specific time period, the actuation of which will occur within the next 2 to 5 years. (Manchurian Candidates?)

3) Termination of some people so that they could function as living sources for biological material and substances.

4) Termination of individuals who represent a threat to the continuation of their activity.

5) Effecting genetic engineering experiments.

6) Impregnation of human females and early termination of pregnancies to secure the crossbreed infant.

The U.S. Government was not initially aware of the far-reaching consequences of the 'deal.' They were led to believe that the abductions were essentially benign and since they figured the abductions would probably go on anyway whether they agreed or not, they merely insisted that a current list of abductees be submitted by the aliens, on a periodic basis, to MJ-12 and the National Security Council.

...The EBEs have a genetic disorder in that their digestive system is atrophied and not functional. Some speculate that they were involved in some type of accident or nuclear war or possibly on the backside of an evolutionary genetic curve. In order to sustain themselves, they use an enzyme hormonal secretion obtained from the tissue that they extract from humans and animals. Note: Cows and humans are genetically similar. (Are the Greys at an evolutionary end? Are they US from the very far future that have lost the ability to reproduce?)

...A huge underground facility was constructed for and with the help of the EBEs. Needless to say, the 'bargained for' technology couldn't be used against the EBEs themselves. It became known that MANY more people were being abducted than were listed. Some of the nation's missing children had been used for secretions and other parts required by the aliens. (There certainly could be secret, underground installations. Something to Alternative 3 must be true. Our scientists advised world leaders in the Geophysical Year of 1957 that our planet was going to hell. They made provisions that those on the very top would save themselves and escape the disasters to come. Their conclusions were not all of us will survive. One alternative was to construct secret bases off of the Earth. Another alternative was the building of vast, federal facilities inside the Earth completely unknown to those on the surface).

In 1979, there was an altercation of sorts at the Dulce laboratory. A special armed forces unit was called in to try and free a number of our people trapped in the facility. According to one source, 66 people had been killed. By 1984, MJ-12 must have been in stark terror of the mistake they had made in dealing with the EBEs. They had subtly promoted 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' and 'E.T.' to get the public used to 'odd-looking' aliens that were compassionate, benevolent and very much our 'space brothers.' MJ-12 sold the EBEs to the public and was now faced with the fact that quite the opposite was true. In addition, a plan was formulated in 1968 to make the public aware of the existence of aliens on Earth over the next 20 years to be culminated with several documentaries to be released during 1985 - 1987. These documentaries would explain the history and intentions of the EBEs. The discovery of the 'Grand Deception' [many more abductions] put the entire plans, hopes and dreams of MJ-12 into utter confusion and panic. What to do now?

Part of MJ-12 wanted to confess the whole scheme and shambles it had become to the public, beg their foregiveness and ask for their support. The majority of MJ-12 argued that there was no way they could do that, that the situation was untenable and there was no use in exciting people with the 'horrible truth.' They decided that the best plan was to continue the development of a weapon that could be used against the EBEs. Under the guise of 'SDI,' the Strategic Defense Initiative concerned the aliens and had nothing to do with defense for inbound Russian nuclear missiles. (The 'Star Wars' program was allegedly already built, but the missiles or lasers do not point toward the Earth to protect against threats from other countries...the weapons point OUT at invaders from space. This weapon reminds me of a plot in the X-Files: A secret committee had to come up with a weapon to protect themselves from the invaders. Coincidences between this report and movies might not be coincidences. Films and TV are a form of public manipulation or brainwashing by those super rich with their own hidden agendas).

As these words are being written (1987), Dr. Edward Teller 'father of the H-Bomb' is personally in the test tunnels of the Nevada Test Site, driving workers and associates 'like a man possessed.' Teller and Dr. Henry Kissenger are both members of MJ-12 as well as Admiral Bobby Inman and possibly Admiral Poindexter, to name a few of its current members.

Before the Grand Deception was discovered and according to a meticulous plan of metered release of info to the public, several documentaries and videotapes were made. William Moore, who wrote 'The Roswell Incident,' has a videotape of two newsmen interviewing a military officer associated with MJ-12. He answered questions relating to the history of MJ-12 and the cover-up.

...The officer also related the fact that the EBEs claim to have created Jesus Christ! The EBEs have a type of recording device that has recorded all of Earth's history and can display it in the form of a hologram. The hologram can be filmed, but because of the way holograms work the film was not clear. The crucifixion of Christ on the Mount of Olives has allegedly been put on film... (Should I ask: Was Mel Gibson's 'The Passion' taken from this history footage provided to our leaders by the aliens? He did have Vatican help and the Vatican is neck-deep in politics, secret information and the occult that they will never reveal).

...Now you ask: 'Why haven't I heard about any of this?' Who do you think you would hear this from? Dan Rather? Tom Brokaw? Wrong. These people just READ the news, they don't find it...and they would not risk their credibility on this kind of story... (Major news stories do not just occur unless THEY want them to occur? Who? Those secret men in Star Chambers that decide the fate of the world without our representation).

Well then, you ask: 'What about our scientists?' What about Carl Sagan? Arthur C. Clarke? Isaac Asimov? Wouldn't they have known? If Carl Sagan knows, then he is committing a great fraud through the solicitation of memberships in the Planetary Society or SETI, 'to search for extraterrestrial intelligence.' (Carl Sagan was a fraud. He was a public spokesman, often seen on the 'Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.' He, supposedly, wrote the inspiration for the film 'Contact.' The truth is he was NOT looking for life in the universe. Why did he debate, on many occasions, Dr. J. Allen Hynek? After Blue Book, Hynek had become pro-alien contact. Sagan always took the negative point of view; almost assuming a lifeless universe. He DID know that the Government found aliens and was forced into the cover-up deception of lying to the public...or he was kept out of the loop).

Another charade into which the U.S. dumps millions of dollars every year is the radio telescope in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, operated by Cornell University with guess who? - Carl Sagan. Cornell is ostensibly searching for signals from Outer Space; a sign that maybe somebody is out there. It is hard to believe that intelligent astronomers like Sagan could be so ignorant. Surely Asimov, the most prolific sci-fi writer of all time would have guessed by now that there must be an enormous cover-up. Perhaps he's afraid that Foundation and Empire will turn out to be inaccurate. What about Clarke? Surely the most technically accurate of sci-fi writers with very close ties to NASA would have at least a hint of what's really going on. In a recent sci-fi survey, Clarke estimated that contact with ET intelligent life would not occur before the 21st Century. If the Government won't tell us the truth and the major networks won't even give it serious consideration, then what is the big picture, anyway? Have the EBEs done a million abductions worldwide? Have they built many secret bases at Groom Lake, Sunspot, Datil, Roswell and Pine Town, New Mexico; to name only a few? (Sagan, Clarke and Asimov would be one of the first experts called in to assist with the alien problem. They were probably paid very well for their silence).

Is the more sinister and most probable situation that the invasion is essentially complete and it is all over but the screaming? A well-planned invasion of Earth for its (human) resources and benefits would not begin with mass landings of ray gun equipped aliens.

(Another film that comes to mind is John Carpenter's 'They Live.' Sunglasses revealed secret phrases of brainwashing on billboards, books, magazines and newspapers. Aliens had already taken us over years ago. The sunglasses also revealed that certain individuals were really aliens. And, there was a human 'elite' that had been working with the aliens in secret. They were rewarded for their efforts).

A properly planned and executed invasion by an advanced civilization would most likely be complete before even a handful of people realized what was happening. (Maybe the best way to conquer is covertly FROM WITHIN?) The best advice I can give you is the next time you see a flying saucer and are awed by its obvious display of technology and gorgeous lightshow...RUN LIKE HELL!!

It's up to you readers. How close to the truth is the above info? I'm not saying CIA pilot John Lear is exposing 100% of the truth; hence the need for a commentary. My opinion is it adds intricate details that Americans, as well as the rest of the planet, should know. Maybe it's 90% true? I'm glad there are outlets like the Internet where free speech can roam. We go blind through the world. Who knows what goes on in plush boardrooms behind closed doors? Who knows the real reasons why big news events happen? Notice that Lear uses the words 'we' and 'our' as if he is part of the very ones he is talking about. My view is the grey aliens [and other aliens] are real; they landed or crashed here long ago; they are in cahoots with Earth governments because they discovered that our world leaders are as corrupt as they are. Both are birds of the same feather. They are working together and we are all in a lot of trouble because of this unholy alliance. Does 'Trilateral' really mean the 2 Earth superpowers and the aliens?

There is still much more to the story that we will never know. Hypothetically, let's say the feds actually revealed the truth to the world. The unfortunate thing is...their disinformation and negative campaign tactics have influenced us so much and for so long...that few people would even believe it. Two things are definitely true: There is Life in the Universe and the Government has a history of lying to the public.

ps. This evening of 2/24/05, ABC aired Peter Jennings 'Seeing is Believing.' You would think by now the UFO cover-up would have lessened; that the Government would treat the public as if they were smarter and more informed. No way; it's all too late for that. Federal manipulation and control rage on to this very day. The 2-hour show was brainwashing. Yes they talked to many UFO observers, abductees and believers in alien contact. BUT there was so much of a platform given to the skeptics and debunkers such as Philip Klass and Shermer, the editor of Skeptic Magazine. At each turn, the UFO Special made viewers think that if you believe in UFOs and ET visitation - then you are a NUT. They were telling us what to think with a totally biased report. For example, when Roswell was discussed...it was portrayed as a MYTH. The word 'myth' was used 7 times in association with Roswell. The only pro-UFO people that spoke concerning Roswell were Stanton Friedman, Jesse Marcel and his son. Then came a parade of people saying there was nothing to Roswell. And, those claiming this myth-encounter was real are merely cashing in on it by selling books and products. A Pentagon general spoke how Project Mogul explains why soldiers besieged Roswell in 1947. The recovered 'tin foil' was a sophisticated spy craft as Top Secret as the Manhattan Project. Right. The Special used scientists to say the distances between the stars were too far to traverse and that space travel was science FICTION. After Budd Hopkins was seen hypnotizing abductees, a number of professionals came on and told viewers that hypnotism was completely unreliable. As far as UFO observation goes, they even claimed that 'seeing is NOT believing.' WOW! Viewers will watch this primetime Special and say 'see, there's nothing to UFOs'...when people, by now, should be skeptical of the skeptics and realize they are the ones with the hidden agendas.

White House Eyed Iraq Long Before 9/11

White House and Pentagon officials, and particularly Vice President Cheney, were determined to attack Iraq from the first days of the Bush administration, long before the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, and repeatedly stretched available intelligence to build support for the war, according to a new book by former CIA director George J. Tenet.

Although Tenet does not question the threat Saddam Hussein posed or the sincerity of administration beliefs, he recounts numerous efforts by aides to Cheney and then-Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld to insert "crap" into public justifications for the war. Tenet also describes an ongoing fear within the intelligence community of the administration's willingness to "mischaracterize complex intelligence information."

"There was never a serious debate that I know of within the administration about the imminence of the Iraq threat," Tenet writes in "At the Center of the Storm," to be released Monday by HarperCollins. The debate "was not about imminence but about acting before Saddam did."

Bartlett: Tenet a ‘patriot,’ but wrong

White House counselor Dan Bartlett yesterday called Tenet a "true patriot" but disputed his conclusions, saying "the president did wrestle with those very serious questions." Responding to reports from the book in yesterday's New York Times, Bartlett suggested that the former CIA director might have been unaware of all the discussions. President Bush, Bartlett said on NBC's "Today Show," "weighed all the various consequences before he did make a decision."

In their threat briefings for the incoming Bush administration in late 2000, Tenet writes, CIA officials did not even mention Iraq. But Cheney, he says, asked for an Iraq briefing and requested that the outgoing Clinton administration's defense secretary, William S. Cohen, provide information on Iraq for Bush.

Fears al-Qaida ‘is here and waiting’

A speech by Cheney in August 2002 "went well beyond what our analysis could support," Tenet writes. The speech charged, among other things, that Hussein had restarted his nuclear program and would "acquire nuclear weapons fairly soon . . . perhaps within a year." Caught off-guard by the remarks, which had not been cleared by the CIA, Tenet says he considered confronting the vice president on the subject but did not.

"Would that have changed his future approach?" he asks. "I doubt it but I should not have let silence imply an agreement." Policymakers, he writes, "have a right to their own opinions, but not their own set of facts."

New details about the origins of the current terrorist threat -- and the way the Clinton and Bush White Houses dealt with it -- add to a growing body of information about the tumultuous late 1990s and the first years of the new century. For the future, Tenet describes his deepest fear as "the nuclear one." He is convinced, he writes, that this is where Osama bin Laden "and his operatives desperately want to go. They understand that bombings by cars, trucks, trains and planes will get them some headlines, to be sure. But if they manage to set off a mushroom cloud, they will make history."

Despite all efforts to thwart them, he says, "I do know one thing in my gut: al-Qa'ida is here and waiting."

Considered resigning in 2003

The book breaks Tenet's long public silence since he resigned in June 2004 over what he considered White House attempts to turn him into a scapegoat, as U.S. efforts in Iraq were bogging down, for the faulty intelligence used to justify the invasion in the first place.

Tenet writes that Bush talked him out of resigning in May 2003. But he decided it was time to go nine months later when a book by The Washington Post's Bob Woodward quoted him as telling Bush in December 2002 that the intelligence case against Iraq was a "slam dunk," a statement he says was taken out of context but subsequently used by the administration to blame him for faulty Iraq intelligence. "I couldn't quit immediately over something that appeared in a book," Tenet writes, "but I didn't see any way I could or should stay on much longer." Bush made no attempt to keep him when he finally resigned in June 2004.

‘Low moments’

Tenet blames himself, among other things, for the hastily compiled October 2002 National Intelligence Estimate, which concluded that Iraq possessed chemical and biological weapons, issued on the eve of a congressional vote authorizing the war. The NIE, he said, "should have been initiated earlier. I didn't think one was necessary. I was wrong." The document, he acknowledged, was "not cautious in key judgments" and at times used single sources who turned out to be wrong.

A perennial problem, he writes, was a tendency by intelligence analysts to assume other people thought like they did. When judging whether Hussein was lying when he said Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction, "we did not account for . . . the mind set never to show weakness in a very dangerous neighborhood."

One of the "lowest moments of my seven-year tenure," Tenet recalls, was when a congressman told him in a public hearing in the spring of 2004 that "we depended on you, and you let us down."

Tenet's account of his CIA years moves through explanation, accusation, defensiveness and occasional apology. When he became acting director in December 1996, Tenet writes, he found an agency "in shambles," its budget slashed, its recruiting moribund and its morale "in the basement." Analysis and clandestine operations had deteriorated, and there was "no coherent, integrated and measurable long-range plan. That's where I focused my energy from day one."

‘President was not well served’

Much of the first half of the book is a detailed account of what Tenet describes as efforts by himself and his lieutenants to meet the emerging al-Qaeda threat and to convince the White House to take aggressive action. Rejecting later criticism of CIA foot-dragging, Tenet writes that "after 9/11 some senior government officials contended that they were surprised at the size and nature of the attacks. Perhaps so, but they shouldn't have been. We had been warning about the threat at every opportunity."

He titles one chapter of the 549-page book "Missed Opportunities," but Tenet misses few opportunities himself to settle scores with Cheney and Rumsfeld and their top aides, and with Bush's first-term national security adviser and current secretary of state, Condoleezza Rice. He characterizes Rice as a "remote" figure who "knew the president's mind well but tended to stay out of policy fights." Under Rice, he says, the National Security Council failed to explore options and reach consensus. Rumsfeld, he says, refused to recognize worsening reality in Iraq and on several occasions undercut CIA efforts with cavalier treatment of secret information.

By contrast, Tenet's treatment of Bush, who presented Tenet with a Medal of Freedom six months after his departure, is relatively gentle. He says he and others sometimes failed to give Bush the information he needed. "The president was not well served," he says by way of example, "because the NSC became too deferential to a postwar strategy that was not working."

Cites value of ‘aggressive’ interrogations

Tenet writes defensively about the controversial program to intercept domestic telephone calls involving terrorism suspects. The program was Cheney's idea, and the vice president briefed "the leaders of the House and Senate Intelligence committees 12 times prior to its public disclosure" in late 2005.

He reiterates a claim last year by Bush that the CIA's harsh interrogations of captured al-Qaeda figures "helped disrupt plots aimed at locations in the United States, the United Kingdom, the Middle East, South Asia, and Central Asia." He says the agency used "the most aggressive" techniques -- which he does not detail -- on "a handful of the worst terrorists on the planet" and that the questioning was "carefully monitored at all times to ensure the safety of the prisoner."

Tenet describes as "baloney" a claim made in a book last year by journalist Ron Suskind that the agency overstated the value of intelligence collected from al-Qaeda operative Abu Zubaida, whom Suskind depicted as "mentally unstable." Zubaida, Tenet says, was central to many al-Qaeda operations and shared "critical information with his interrogators." Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohammed, he says, initially told interrogators that he would talk only after seeing a lawyer in the United States. "Had that happened," Tenet writes, "I am confident that we would have obtained none of the information he had in his head about imminent threats against the American people."

Al-Qaeda has responded to the U.S. intelligence focus on young Arab men as potential risks, he says, by recruiting "jihadists with different backgrounds. Several prominent scholars who were interviewed in a bitterly contested documentary that suggests that Jesus and his family members were buried in a nondescript ancient Jerusalem burial cave have now revised their conclusions, including the statistician who claimed that the odds were 600:1 in favor of the tomb being the family burial cave of Jesus of Nazareth, a new study on the fallout from the popular documentary shows.

The dramatic clarifications, compiled by epigrapher Stephen Pfann of the University of the Holy Land in Jerusalem in a paper titled "Cracks in the Foundation: How the Lost Tomb of Jesus story is losing its scholarly support," come two months after the screening of The Lost Tomb of Christ that attracted widespread public interest, despite the concomitant scholarly ridicule.

The film, made by Oscar-winning director James Cameron and Emmy-winning Canadian filmmaker Simcha Jacobovici, prompted major criticism from both a leading Israeli archeologist involved in the original dig at the site as well as Christian leaders, who were angered over the documentary's contradictions of main tenets of Christianity.

But now, even some of the scholars who were interviewed for and appeared in the film are questioning some of its basic claims.

The most startling change of opinion featured in the 16-page paper is that of University of Toronto statistician Professor Andrey Feuerverger, who stated those 600 to one odds in the film. Feuerverger now says that these referred to the probability of a cluster of such names appearing together.

Pfann's paper reported that a statement on the Discovery Channel's Web site, which previously read "a statistical study commissioned by the broadcasters...concludes that the probability factor is 600 to 1 in favor of this being the tomb of Jesus of Nazareth and his family," in keeping with Feuerverger's statement, has been altered and now reads, "a statistical study commissioned by the broadcasters... concludes that the probability factor is in the order of 600 to 1 that an equally 'surprising' cluster of names would arise purely by chance under given assumptions."

Another sentence on the same Web site stating that Feuerverger had concluded it was highly probable that the tomb, located in the southeastern residential Jerusalem neighborhood of Talpiot, was the Jesus family tomb - the central point of the film - has also been changed. It now reads: "It is unlikely that an equally surprising cluster of names would have arisen by chance under purely random sampling."

Israeli archeologists have said that the similarity of the names found inscribed on the ossuaries in the cave to the members of Jesus's family was coincidental, since many of those names were commonplace in the first century CE.

The film argues that 10 ancient ossuaries - burial boxes used to store bones - that were discovered in Talpiot in 1980 contained the bones of Jesus and his family. The filmmakers attempt to explain some of the inscriptions on the ossuaries by suggesting that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene, and that the couple had a son, Judah.

One of the ossuaries bears an inscription reading "Yeshua son of Yehosef" or "Jesus son of Joseph;" a second reads "Mary;" a third is a Greek inscription apparently read by one scholar as "Mary Magdalene;" while a fourth bears the inscription, "Judah, son of Jesus." The inscriptions are in Hebrew or Aramaic, except for the one in Greek.

But Shimon Gibson, who was part of the team that excavated the tomb two and half decades ago and who appeared in the film, is quoted in Pfann's report as saying he doubted the site was the tomb of Jesus and his family.

"Personally, I'm skeptical that this is the tomb of Jesus and I made this point very clear to the filmmakers," Gibson is quoted as saying.

"We need much more evidence before we can say that the Talpiot tomb might be the family tomb of Jesus," he added.

In the film, renowned epigrapher Prof. Frank Moore Cross, professor emeritus of Hebrew and oriental languages at Harvard University, is seen reading one of the ossuaries and stating that he has "no real doubt" that it reads "Jesus son of Joseph." But according to Pfann, Cross said in an e-mail that he was skeptical about the film's claims, not because of a misreading of the ossuary, but because of the ubiquity of Biblical names in that period in Jerusalem.

"It has been reckoned that 25 percent of feminine names in this period were Maria/Miriam, etc. - that is, variants of 'Mary.' So the cited statistics are unpersuasive. You know the saying: lies, damned lies, and statistics," Cross is quoted as saying.

The paper also notes that DNA scientist Dr. Carney Matheson, who supervised DNA testing carried out for the film from the supposed Jesus and Mary Magdalene ossuaries, and who said in the documentary that "these two individuals, if they were unrelated, would most likely be husband and wife," later said that "the only conclusions we made were that these two sets were not maternally related. To me, it sounds like absolutely nothing."

Furthermore, Pfann also says that a specialist in ancient apocryphal text, Professor Francois Bovon, who is quoted in the film as saying the enigmatic ossuary inscription "Mariamne" is the same woman known as Mary Magdalene - one of the filmmakers' critical arguments - issued a disclaimer stating that he did not believe that "Mariamne" stood for Mary of Magdalene at all.

Pfann has already argued that the controversial inscription does not read "Mariamne" at all.

The burial site, which has been contested from the start by scholars and church officials alike, is some distance from the Church of the Holy Sepulchrr in the Old City, where many Christians believe Jesus's body lay for three days after he was crucified.

According to the New Testament, Jesus rose from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion, and an ossuary containing Jesus's bones - the explanations of the movie director notwithstanding - would contradict the core Christian belief that he was resurrected and then ascended to heaven. - source

Israel 'must halt' Jerusalem dig

A UN report is calling for an immediate halt to work by the Israeli authorities at a Jerusalem site holy to both Muslims and Jews.

Excavation works close to the Haram al-Sharif/the Temple Mount compound have sparked angry Muslim protests.

The report published today says Israel must draw up a new work plan for the contested site.

It also calls for consultation between Israel, the Muslim authorities and Jordan over the excavation works.

The report by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) also says Israeli excavations comply with "professional" standards.

The Israeli authorities say the dig is meant to salvage archaeological remains ahead of the construction of a new pedestrian walkway to the religious compound located in East Jerusalem.

But the report says that the excavations should be limited to the stability of the structure needed for the consolidation work.

It claims that such information is now available and the excavations should be stopped.

Palestinian critics and Muslim figures internationally say the work could damage the mosque foundations.

Violent Protests

Unesco officials visited the site last month.

The UN report says that the rampway should retain "the values of authenticity and integrity of the site".

It calls for international team of experts lead by Unesco to oversee the construction of the new walkway if it goes ahead.

Israeli foreign ministry spokesman Mark Regev said the UN report proved Israel would not harm Muslim holy sites.

"This totally supports our stance in that this (work) is benign," he told Reuters news agency. "This publicly disputes some of the hateful messages put out there by extremists for political gain."

The initial excavations sparked off violent Muslim protests in East Jerusalem where the religious compound is located.

Israel occupied East Jerusalem in the 1967 Middle East war, a move not recognised internationally.

A spokesman for the Jerusalem municipality has said there would be a public consultation process before any construction works begin.

JERUSALEM -- A scholar looking into the factual basis of a popular but widely criticized documentary that claims to have located the tomb of Jesus said Tuesday that a crucial piece of evidence filmmakers used to support their claim is a mistake.

Stephen Pfann, a textual scholar and paleographer at the University of the Holy Land in Jerusalem, said he has released a paper claiming the makers of "The Lost Tomb of Jesus" were mistaken when they identified an ancient ossuary from the cave as belonging to the New Testament's Mary Magdalene.

The film's director, Simcha Jacobovici, responded that other researchers agreed with the documentary's conclusions.

Produced by Oscar-winning director James Cameron, the documentary has drawn intense media coverage for its claims challenging accepted Christian dogma.

Despite widespread ridicule from scholars, "The Lost Tomb of Jesus" drew more than 4 million viewers when it aired on the Discovery Channel on March 4. A companion book, "The Jesus Family Tomb," has rocketed to sixth place on The New York Times nonfiction best-seller list.

The film and book suggest that a first-century ossuary found in a south Jerusalem cave in 1980 contained the remains of Jesus, contradicting the Christian belief that he was resurrected and ascended to heaven. Ossuaries are stone boxes used at the time to store the bones of the dead.

The filmmakers also suggest that Mary Magdalene was buried in the tomb, that she and Jesus were married, and that an ossuary labeled "Judah son of Jesus" belonged to their son.

The scholars who analyzed the Greek inscription on one of the ossuaries after its discovery read it as "Mariamene e Mara," meaning "Mary the teacher" or "Mary the master."

Before the movie was screened, Jacobovici said that particular inscription provided crucial support for his claim. The name Mariamene is rare, and in some early Christian texts it is believed to refer to Mary Magdalene.

But having analyzed the inscription, Pfann published a detailed article on his university's Web site asserting that it doesn't read "Mariamene" at all.

The inscription, Pfann said, is made up of two names inscribed by two different hands: the first, "Mariame," was inscribed in a formal Greek script, and later, when the bones of another woman were added to the box, another scribe using a different cursive script added the words "kai Mara," meaning "and Mara." Mara is a different form of the name Martha.

According to Pfann's reading, the ossuary did not house the bones of "Mary the teacher," but rather of two women, "Mary and Martha."

"In view of the above, there is no longer any reason to be tempted to link this ossuary ... to Mary Magdalene or any other person in biblical, non-biblical or church tradition," Pfann wrote.

In the interest of telling a good story, Pfann said, the documentary engaged in some "fudging" of the facts.

"James Cameron is a great guru of science fiction, and he's taking it to a new level with Simcha Jacobovici. You take a little bit of science, spin a good yarn out of it and you get another 'Terminator' or 'Life of Brian,"' said Pfann, who briefly appeared as an ossuary expert in the documentary.

In Israel on Tuesday for a screening of the film, the Toronto-based Jacobovici welcomed Pfann's criticism, saying "every inscription should be re-examined."

But Jacobovici said scholars who researched the ossuary in the past agreed with the film's reading. "Anyone who looks at it can see that the script was written by the same hand," he added.

Jacobovici has faced criticism much tougher than Pfann's academic critique. The film has been termed "archaeo-porn," and Jacobovici has been accused of "pimping the Bible."

Jacobovici attributes most of the criticism to scholars' discomfort with journalists "casting light into their ossuary monopoly."

"What we're doing is democratizing this knowledge, and this is driving some people crazy," he said.

Resurrection and the Tomb of Jesus

Whether or not Jesus rose from the dead is arguably the most important question in the history of western civilization. It is also irrelevant and based on a misunderstanding of the process of resurrection, and should not be important at all. He both died and remained dead, and was resurrected. After the resurrection, his body remained in the tomb and was undoubtedly taken away to be buried somewhere.

Perhaps the burial place has been found and perhaps not. Certainly, an interesting tomb has been found, as was shown in the recent TV film, the Lost Tomb of Jesus.

However, the fact that Jesus left a corpse behind does not mean that there was no resurrection. That this is even an issue only points to the fact that we do not understand the nature of resurrection.

This is because we have been lied to about it for millennia by men who have sought to use the wonderful good news that Christ brought to us, to their own greedy ends.

If you read the gospels with any care, you will see that the resurrected Jesus no longer functions like a physical body. He functions like something that appears to be physical, but has new powers to appear and disappear at will, and to move about without reference to the constraints of nature. This is because the man who was seen—and he certainly was seen, I think—was no longer a physical body.

The fact that we do not understand this, and that so many of us believe that his conquest of death had something to do with his physical remains is tragic.

Something terrible happened to the Christian religion, and to western society, in the second and third centuries after the resurrection. Specifically, the pagan gods were replaced with Jesus, who was made into an instrument of political power.

This is utterly at odds with his true message, which was that the kingdom of heaven is not the domain of gods and kings at all, but the rightful inheritance of everybody and anybody. It is also within us, it is part of us, it is integral to being human, and he is no different from any of us. So of course he died. We all die. But he also demonstrated, by continuing to appear after death, that the soul does retain consciousness, and a sufficiently powerful and attentive soul can affect the living and actually be seen by them and communicate with them even after the death of the physical body. Anybody can do it. It’s not a miracle, it is an ability natural to conscious beings, or should be.

To get power, evil men set Jesus on a god’s pedestal, and imbued him with special physical qualities quite unlike those of ordinary people. He was supposedly formed out of some sort of divine substance, different from ordinary people, higher, special and unattainable. He wasn’t even conceived via sexual union between man and woman. Not only that, this most sacred of all sacraments, sexual union between a loving couple, was called ugly and profane by these profoundly sinful men. For a human being to reject sex is to reject nature and thus also God. Certainly, it is to reject Christ.

The resurrection was a special and unique event, they told us, its purpose being to draw attention to the importance of the way of worship that Jesus supposedly proclaimed—and coincidentally, to confer power onto a priesthood that managed the salvation that he promised as a sort of process involving subservience to various secular and religious political institutions.

But it’s all a lie—one cunningly fashioned out of truth, but still a lie, and probably the most profoundly evil of all lies. This is because the whole message of Jesus—the Good News—is that each person is whole and complete and has only to look within himself to find the kingdom of God.

The lie is designed to disempower the very person—the ordinary human being—whose true power Jesus sought to unleash, on behalf of this whole species reaching a new and better level of being, of becoming more compassionate, more loving and more joyous by becoming more aware of ourselves and thus also understanding of one another.

Jesus was an ordinary man, conceived in the ordinary way. There was nothing special about him at all, except that he knew himself, and, by extension, everyone. He was not soul blind, and he knew how to live in such a way to gain the help and knowledge he needed to truly understand himself and others.

Resurrection is not mysterious and separate from ordinary life. It’s as much a part of nature as breathing. Because we are soul-blind, though, we do not see it. But it is—or ought to be—a natural outcome of lives lived by creatures like us. That it is so rare here, and the path to it concealed, is testament to the fact that this is a fallen world.

But what does that mean, then? What is a fallen world?

A fallen world is one in which the purpose of conscious life either was known and has been lost or rejected or, as in our case, both. In fact, the purpose of conscious life is to grow a coherent and defined soul, that carries consciousness into energy after the physical body dies.

How do we make our eyes to see, then, if we are blind? Jesus said it: give yourself to your nature: “consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin.” People think that this means that we should abandon our shelter and go out and live in the forest, but it does not mean to give up our humanity. Our fur was taken from us so that we would use our brains and make them grow into what they have become: a machinery for the creation of souls.

I say creation, because that’s what it is. The creation isn’t over, it’s ongoing. Every death is, potentially, an ultimately creative act. When most of us die, we have very little left of ourselves. We are not in any kind of balance and wander a bit, often not even knowing—and often not ever knowing—that we died, then ending up in another physical body again all willy-nilly, drawn by the magnetism of the physical, and just continuing on the wheel of life.

When recently the Tomb of Jesus was broadcast, I saw at once that the mausoleum pictured was that of a family with real knowledge. The reason is that the door to the tomb bears a symbolic inscription of a T-square over a circle that means “the measure of the world.” This was a common but secret medallion of royal families in Judea—that is to say, families who had brought the craft with them from Egypt. Jewish royalty was descended from Egyptian royalty. Moses was an Egyptian royal prince, and all who came of him were of the same blood, too.

Why is this significant? Because there is a way to be born other than willy-nilly. Some are born, like Jesus, as all of us were meant to be born, with intention, to parents who know in advance the task the child has come into the physical world to perform.

If you die in a state of real consciousness, what happens to you then will be your decision. If you come back, it will be with intention and, as soon as your brain is able to process the information, real knowledge of who you are, where you came from, and why you are here.

Going on and not re-entering the physical means joining one’s personal aim to what has been the aim of life from the beginning: to enter a greater consciousness, one that is founded in the life of the earth and is our contribution to the ecstasy of eternal being.

And yet we live in a world that is so turned in on itself that most of us either don’t believe that our souls exist, or, even if we say that we believe this, act as if we don’t. I have had the blessing to be fully conscious outside of my body, and I can bear at least my own small personal witness to the reality of the soul. It is not a dream and it cannot be explained away by the various forms of high-sounding poppycock that are generally used to dismiss it. Life is not mechanical. The soul is not fiction.

Our aim should be to bring intention into our lives, which is to say, to surrender ourselves just as do the flowers of the field.

But how can intention have anything to do with being given over to the whims of nature? Another man who, like Jesus, knew God was Meister Eckhart, and he expressed what it was to be as the lily in a slightly different way: “be as a clear glass through which God can shine.”

You don’t need to make a shelter for your soul, God will make it out of the winds that blow you through life. “Be as the lilies of the field” means to live life—to lie down and be crushed in the fury of the storm, but also to have joy in the sun of the day.

But, how, precisely, do we go about living like this? Does it mean to let life walk over us? When injustice comes, what is really meant by turning the other cheek? It means to accept the energy of the situation objectively as energy, without regard to the way it manifests. “Negative?” “Positive?” Not our business. Our business: accept the energy, trust grace and give our lives to God.

Life has been growing here on earth for hundreds of millions of years, and has many times evolved three-brained beings like us. We are the only ones, however, who have ended up with hands and resonating vocal chords capable of complex speech and thus communication. This means that we can respond to the challenges of nature rather than just accept them. Thus, our minds have grown. When a creature with hands is cold, he can pull down leaves to make a shelter, or cut open an animal and use the body for warmth. He can think about how to take that warmth with him, and make himself a coat. He can make a house, tools, all the rest of it, right up to the internet and beyond. And, if he can speak, above all, he can tell others.

And with the intelligence that has grown in the service of his needs, he can also begin to do what three-brained beings were meant to do, which is to live in inner harmony, to the point that we have the chance to see ourselves objectively, and therefore to affect what happens to our souls.

By three-brained, I mean that we have a reptilian or primitive brain that controls our nervous system and basic impulses, a mammalian, or mid-brain that mediates our emotional life, and a human or higher brain that reasons.

These three levels of the brain form the most energetic and evolutionary structure in the universe: a triad. The negative pole is the lowest level, because it can act only from impulse. The positive pole is the mid level, because it can mediate desires with compassion and love. The harmonizing level is the highest level, the human level, which can balance the needs of the other two and so create a greater, harmonious whole, a fourth level of being that is beyond death and immortal.

This is the energy of resurrection, the Osiris energy, the Jesus energy.

Osiris suffered fourteen cuts from his brother Set, as also Jesus traversed the fourteen stations of the cross during his passion. Normally, a life is expressed as a full octave of seven parts. The reason their lives are expressed as fourteen parts is that they were living two lives at once: the subjective life of their suffering and the objective life of their seeing. Thus the number of a life is seven, but the number of a resurrected life is fourteen.

Near the baptismal place now called the Osirion in Egypt there is an ancient philosophical machine we refer to as the Sphinx. This statue expresses the process of resurrection. It has the strength of a bull, the courage of a lion and the intelligence of a man and can therefore soar aloft like an eagle.

To rise above life is to rise into the second level of being as Osiris and Jesus did. This means that we not only live our lives, but see ourselves living them, and see all around us from above—that is to say, from outside of time.

The need to do this is where the admonitions to turn the other cheek and love the enemy come from. Unless we include our enemy in our love, we cannot be objective about him, and if we do not see his truth, we also do not see our own truth, and in this way hatred clips our wings. The energy uses us instead of us using the energy.

All meditation is, in essence, about finding a way of processing energy in such a way that it feeds objective understanding and leads us down the path to inner truth.

As a species, we have been moving for thousands of years in the direction of this state. The reason that blood is considered important in human affairs is that this state is so potent that something of it literally enters the blood of those who experience it, and is even passed down to future generations. The ability to be objective and taste of resurrection is profoundly of the body at every level, including the physical. Who reaches this state gives the ability to reach it to their children. This is the origin of the symbolic eating of the body and drinking of the blood of Christ, to partake of this state. However, actual eating and drinking mean nothing. What Jesus was saying was that his bloodline was important, that his body was to be spread throughout the world after his death.

How, though? Well, he must have had children or he wouldn’t have bothered to say it. Of course, it’s all stuff and nonsense that one man, believed to be directly descended from Jesus, would have better blood than the next. In point of fact, the blood of everybody who lived at the time of Jesus—him included, through his children—now runs, effectively, in the veins of everybody in Europe and the Middle East and probably everybody in the world, and those who do not bear the blood of Christ within them bear the blood of another such person. So not only was Christ resurrected in his own life, his resurrection is in us, too.

THIS IS WHAT THE DARK SIDE DOES NOT WANT US TO REALIZE.

It’s why we are fed the lie that Christ died “for our sins” when, in truth, he lived for our souls.

Christ did not die at all, and he showed his living presence to prove it, even though his body expired and rotted away. And because we are the body and blood of Christ, he is alive in all of us right now.

This objective material I am speaking of does not die, it passes into a woman’s eggs and a man’s semen, and gives the next generation a greater ability to experience more objective being and be more harmonious.

This is why the wives were so important to these special men, inundated as they were with this richly energetic material, and also why their children were so very hidden. No objective person wants his bloodline recognized, because this will mean that his children will be exalted in this life, which is a curse. The palace is too far for comfort from the lilies of the field. It is difficult to remember who you truly are when you are surrounded by the glitter of the material world.

We apes have a love of glitter. The chimpanzee is fascinated by the twinkling bauble in your hand, and we’re no different. You couldn’t sell many new cars if they didn’t shine. The reason for this goes way back: this adaptation made it easier for our forebears to see the skin of fruit hidden among the leaves when we lived in the forest. All of these things we place around our bodies and say of them, “this is mine,” are just so much shine. The whole world of possessions is nothing more important than an old, now useless adaptation from when we had different needs. Unfortunately, because of it, we are eating the planet. But “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.”

This is why, when you put aside your material self and re-enter this world as a naked soul, everything turns upside down. The rich countries appear poverty stricken—vast, dark plains marked only here and there by an occasional spark. But go to the poor countries, and there you find fountains of light spewing up into the heavens. “But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.” This is what it means. “And the meek shall inherit the earth.” This is what it means.

But to live in the peace and comfort of the first world also means that there is an extraordinary chance to turn toward Christ, because we have the education needed to contemplate wisely, and the leisure to do so. So in those few little sparks in the prosperous lands, when you go close to them, you find the treasures of the ages.

The Romans killed Jesus of Nazareth because he was the heir to the throne of David, bearer of the blood of Moses and Osiris. In Judea at the time of Jesus there were only about three thousand Romans, and not all of them were soldiers. It was an unstable situation, and they were aware of the fact that a determined uprising could easily overpower them. They relied on their ally Herod and his family and their Greek and Jewish soldiers to keep the peace. But Herod and his family were not Jews, and certainly very far from the exalted house of David. When Jesus began to make a name for himself as a preacher, the Romans eventually captured and crucified him in order to demonstrate their power and effect his utter humiliation. The fact that he was not preaching about an earthly kingdom was entirely lost on those primitive men. Here was the heir to the throne of David talking about some sort of kingdom. That was quite enough to get him killed.

However, the fact that he was a victim of political murder was coincidental to his ministry.

No doubt Jews loyal to Herod supported the murder, and thus are also to some extent responsible. However, in the gospels the real situation was reversed so that the Romans to whom they were meant to appeal would not take offense at them. The mild and tolerant Roman governor washes his hands of the affair in the gospels. In reality, the Romans would have sent their agents to find this dangerous man, and would have themselves caused the ironic title to be nailed on his cross: king of the Jews.

The murder of Jesus broke the House of David, and also made the eventual Jewish rebellion inevitable. James and Jesus’ other brothers followed a much more traditional Jewish ministry, saying nothing of any kingdoms. His wife clarified his message as a moral and philosophical one, not a political one, and was the person who led the apostles in spreading it to the world...and, more importantly, hiding the children and giving them the chance to grow up and have children of their own. She took the blood with her, and nurtured it, and gave it to us. We drink of it because of her. We are Christ because of her.

The time when her role was erased and the equal place of women usurped in the church was the same time that the lies that the body of Jesus was special and the resurrection unique to him were spread. The effect of this was to derange the Christian household by making one of its pillars shorter than the other. The household where objective seeing is to be gained—where the measure of the world is to be taken—must be founded on two equal pillars. Otherwise, it is a crooked house and will come down.

“Two are better than one, and a cord of three strands is not quickly snapped.” What this means is that harmony between the two is reconciled in the third. The third strand is love, itself a triad with three levels, physical, emotional and rational. This love eventually results in children, and in this sense it is the building block of the species. So any society in which either sex is considered in any way unequal is itself an unbalanced triad and doomed to failure. Throughout human history, one sex or the other has always dominated, in virtually every culture. The ones where this was least true have lasted the longest, and brought the most happiness to their members.

Christ has nothing to do with religion or belief. You do not need to believe in anything to be a Christian, and it was never intended that the way be imposed on anybody, or that the Good News be turned into bad news for nonbelievers. Nor, as I said before, is the idea that Jesus died for our sins true in any way at all. He died because he was the true heir to the Jewish throne. It had nothing to do with any sins anybody subsequently may or may not have committed, and nobody is born with sin already on their souls.

The whole point of recurrence is that the slate is wiped clean so that another effort may be made. If a soul’s situation becomes impossible, its memory of itself fades entirely and it is lost to consciousness. That’s the real wage of sin, and the only one. It is always a choice made in life, and for that to happen is extremely rare. The truth is that human beings are mostly innocent and mostly good. We lash out because we are frightened or we are desperate, or have been harmed in some way by a bad childhood.

That which seeks our ruin causes us to concentrate on darkness and evil, and tells us that we are powerless and that our souls are ugly. The human mind has been alive in the earth for just a few thousand years. Osiris, Christ, Krishna, Buddha, Mahomet—all of these bearers have just left their blood and wisdom in us in the past few millions of a second, in the great time of the earth.

And yet, so important is that second that everything that has come before, all the billions of years that earth has been here, are one day. We are the next day.

The Lost Tomb of Jesus

Certainly, the story of this week has been James Cameron and his Jesus bone box. Here's an almost complete summary of the story, to get you up to speed with what is sure to be an ongoing saga this year:

The flurry of publicity this week (see a Reuters slide-show) is actually a little surprising, given that the 'bone boxes' (properly known as ossuaries) were unearthed at an Israeli construction site in 1980, and there has been comment about them previously over the years (including a 1996 BBC documentary which made similar claims). The recent hype comes about because of a 90 minute documentary which will be shown on Discovery Channel this Sunday (4th March, 2007), produced by Titanic and Terminator director James Cameron, titled "The Lost Tomb of Jesus".

The ossuaries are said to bear inscriptions matching those of the immediate family of Jesus the Christ, as well as Mary Magdalene (of course suggesting the Dan Brown meme that the couple were married), and also a son of Jesus and Mary, Judah (said to be confirmed by DNA tests).

Jane Root, president of Discovery Channel, says "The evidence is compelling...the consequences are enormous." However, Amos Kloner, the Bar Ilan University professor who led the excavation in the 1980s, dismissed the claim: "They [say they] are 'discovering' things. But they haven't discovered anything. They haven't found anything. Everything had already been published. And there is no basis on which to make a story out of this or to identify this as the family of Jesus."

Lawrence E. Stager, the Dorot professor of archaeology of Israel at Harvard, commented that the documentary "is exploiting the whole trend that caught on with ‘The Da Vinci Code'", despite not having seen the documentary. However, James Cameron refuted claims of riding Dan Brown's coat-tails. “I think this is the biggest archaeological story of the century,” he said. “It’s absolutely not a publicity stunt. It’s part of a very well-considered plan to reveal this information to the world in a way that makes sense, with proper documentation.”

The makers of the Bloodline documentary released an email update in which they said they...

...think it's a good thing that the debate continues over the historical Jesus and the origins of Christianity. Of course, we feel that it's much more likely that, in the climate of the time, Jesus, Mary Magdalene and their family came to France and are buried there.

Sporting their own biblical scholar, they quoted Professor Robert Eisenman (of Dead Sea Scrolls fame) as commenting about Cameron's discovery, that "it should be obvious that names of the kind found in the ' Jesus Burial Cave ' were so widespread at the time that finding a family tomb with ossuaries inscribed with them proves nothing at all."

Meanwhile, it's interesting to note the manner in which the discovery is being treated by the Christian base as an assault upon Christianity. From viewing various forums around the Intarweb, this seems to be a common feeling amongst Christians - that this is just the next attempt to discredit their religion, in a similar vein to The Da Vinci Code. This perception obviously arises out of the suggestion that Jesus was married, and that the discovery of his mortal remains argues against his ascension. R. Albert Mohler, president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, said the film is a "made-for-television hoax", while Catholic sources were very skeptical of the documentary.

Beyond the James Cameron versus Christianity debate though, there is another controversy which seems to have been brewing for some time. Some have noted the allegedly fraudulent 'James Ossuary' as being a bone of contention (no pun intended) between Christians and Jews, with the Israeli Archaeological Authority (IAA) going up against Christian supporters of the alleged Biblical relic and most notably Hershel Shanks and his Biblical Archaeology Society (BAS). There is a similarity in that case with the new finds - Israeli archaeologists debunking claims of 'Christian' discoveries - although with the twist this time that many Christians will be siding with the Israelis.

But wait, a further twist: some have made a claim for the authenticity of the James Ossuary because it is rumoured to have come from the same dig as the new ossuaries, with Cameron's team identifying the same patina on their ossuaries as on the James Ossuary (see Archaeology.org's cynical coverage, which also has some excellent images of the press conference). However, just last week photos were submitted in the forgery case against antiquities dealer Oled Golan, suggesting it had been held since 1976. Ironically, though these images are supposed to validate Golan's claims for authenticity of the James Ossuary, the photos may invalidate any suggestion that the ossuary was part of the Jesus ossuary collection (although it could be claimed that it was looted before the 'official' discovery of the tomb).

Interestingly, just to muddy already murky waters, one of the scholars present at the James Cameron press conference was James Tabor, author of The Jesus Dynasty. As the Archaeology.org coverage notes, in his book Tabor suggests that Jesus was actually the son of a Roman soldier named Pantera, "a conclusion obviously at odds with the Cameron and Jacobovici's interpretation of the cave and its find." Another, Shimon Gibson - who was a member of the team that originally excavated the tomb - confessed to being skeptical about the claim...though he did urge keeping an open mind about the possibility.

And perhaps that is the best advice. Certainly, there is reason for skepticism. But every argument deserves to be heard, as I'm sure they will over the coming weeks and months.

Martial Law: 9/11 Rise of the Police State was filmed primarily during the Republican Party's 2004 national convention in New York City. The Republican Party's choice to hold the event there drew both strong praise and strong criticism. Alex Jones' clear intent was that the people who were truly guilty of planning and carrying out the events of September 11, 2001 were coming back to the scene of the crime.

In the film, Jones shows what he believes are signs of a growing police state: constant surveillance, a defined military presence, a militarized civilian police force, mass roundups and arrests of protesters, detention in a makeshift facility laden with asbestos which one interviewee called a "concentration camp", and threats of arrest for constitutionally legal activities. Many different views are presented, including one semi-humorous confrontation with a group of American communists.

FEMA and Mount Weather's "Government-in-Waiting"

Few Americans — indeed, few Congressional reps — are aware of the existence of Mount Weather, a mysterious underground military base carved deep inside a mountain near the sleepy rural town of Bluemont, Virginia, just 46 miles from Washington DC. Mount Weather — also known as the Western Virginia Office of Controlled Conflict Operations — is buried not just in hard granite, but in secrecy as well.

In March, 1976, The Progressive Magazine published an astonishing article entitled "The Mysterious Mountain." The author, Richard Pollock, based his investigative report on Senate subcommittee hearings and upon "several off-the-record interviews with officials formerly associated with Mount Weather." His report, and a 1991 article in Time Magazine entitled "Doomsday Hideaway", supply a few compelling hints about what is going on underground.

Ted Gup, writing for Time, describes the base as follows:

"Mount Weather is a virtually self-contained facility. Aboveground, scattered across manicured lawns, are about a dozen buildings bristling with antennas and microwave relay systems. An on-site sewage-treatment plant, with a 90,000 gal.-a-day capacity, and two tanks holding 250,000 gal. of water could last some 200 people more than a month; underground ponds hold additional water supplies. Not far from the installation's entry gate are a control tower and a helicopter pad. The mountain's real secrets are not visible at ground level."

The mountain's "real secrets" are protected by warning signs, 10-foot-high chain link fences, razor wire, and armed guards. Curious motorists and hikers on the Appalachian trail are relieved of their sketching pads and cameras and sent on their way. Security is tight.

The government has owned the site since 1903; it has seen service as an artillery range, a hobo farm during the Depression, and a National Weather Bureau Facility. In 1936, the U.S. Bureau of Mines took control and started digging.

Mount Weather is virtually an underground city, according to former personnel interviewed by Pollock. Buried deep inside the earth, Mount Weather was equipped with such amenities as:

* private apartments and dormitories
* streets and sidewalks
* cafeterias and hospitals
* a water purification system, power plant and general office buildings
* a small lake fed by fresh water from underground springs
* its own mass transit system
* a TV communication system

Mount Weather is the self-sustaining underground command center for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The facility is the operational center — the hub — of approximately 100 other Federal Relocation Centers, most of which are concentrated in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland and North Carolina. Together this network of underground facilities constitutes the backbone of America's "Continuity of Government" program. In the event of nuclear war, declaration of martial law, or other national emergency, the President, his cabinet and the rest of the Executive Branch would be "relocated" to Mount Weather.

What Does Congress Know about Mount Weather?

According to the Senate Subcommittee on Constitutional Rights hearings in 1975, Congress has almost no knowledge and no oversight — budgetary or otherwise — on Mount Weather. Retired Air Force General Leslie W. Bray, in his testimony to the subcommittee, said "I am not at liberty to describe precisely what is the role and the mission and the capability that we have at Mount Weather, or at any other precise location."

Apparently, this underground capital of the United States is a secret only to Congress and the US taxpayers who paid for it. The Russians know about it, as reported in Time:

"Few in the U.S. government will speak of it, though it is assumed that all along the Soviets have known both its precise location and its mission (unlike the Congress, since Bray wouldn't tell); defense experts take it as a given that the site is on the Kremlin's targeting maps."

The Russians attempted to buy real estate right next door, as a "country estate" for their embassy folks, but that deal was dead-ended by the State Department.

Mount Weather's "Government-in-Waiting"

Pollock's report, based on his interviews with former officials at Mount Weather, contains astounding information on the base's personnel. The underground city contains a parallel government-in-waiting:

"High-level Governmental sources, speaking in the promise of strictest anonymity, told me [Pollock] that each of the Federal departments represented at Mount Weather is headed by a single person on whom is conferred the rank of a Cabinet-level official. Protocol even demands that subordinates address them as "Mr. Secretary." Each of the Mount Weather "Cabinet members" is apparently appointed by the White House and serves an indefinite term... many through several Administrations....The facility attempts to duplicate the vital functions of the Executive branch of the Administration."

Nine Federal departments are replicated within Mount Weather (Agriculture; Commerce; Health, Education & Welfare; Housing & Urban Development; Interior; Labor; State; Transportation; and Treasury) as well as at least five Federal agencies (Federal Communications Commission, Selective Service, Federal Power Commission, Civil Service Commission, and the Veterans Administration). The Federal Reserve and the U.S. Post Office, both private corporations, also have offices in Mount Weather.

Pollock writes that the "cabinet members" are "apparently" appointed by the White House and serve an indefinite term, but that information cannot be confirmed, raising the further question of who holds the reins on this "back-up government." Furthermore, appointed Mount Weather officials hold their positions through several elected administrations, transcending the time their appointers spend in office. Unlike other presidential nominees, these apppointments are made without the public advice or consent of the Senate.

Is there an alternative President and Vice President as well? If so, who appoints them? Pollock says only this:

"As might be expected, there is also an Office of the Presidency at Mount Weather. The Federal Preparedness Agency (predecessor to FEMA) apparently appoints a special staff to the Presidential section, which regularly receives top secret national security estimates and raw data from each of the Federal departments and agencies."

What Do They Do At Mount Weather?

* Collect Data on American Citizens

The Senate Subcommittee in 1975 learned that the "facility held dossiers on at least 100,000 Americans. [Senator] John Tunney later alleged that the Mount Weather computers can obtain millions of pieces of additional information on the personal lives of American citizens simply by tapping the data stored at any of the other ninety-six Federal Relocation Centers."

The subcommittee concluded that Mount Weather's databases "operate with few, if any, safeguards or guidelines."

* Store Necessary Information

The Progressive article detailed that "General Bray gave Tunney's subcommittee a list of the categories of files maintained at Mount Weather: military installations, government facilities, communications, transportation, energy and power, agriculture, manufacturing, wholesale and retail services, manpower, financial, medical and educational institutions, sanitary facilities, population, housing shelter, and stockpiles." This massive database fits cleanly into Mount Weather's ultimate purpose as the command center in the event of a national emergency.

* Play War Games

This is the main daily activity of the approximately 240 people who work at Mount Weather. The games are intended to train the Mount Weather bureaucracy to managing a wide range of problems associated with both war and domestic political crises.

Decisions are made in the "Situation Room," the base's nerve center, located in the core of Mount Weather. The Situation Room is the archetypal war room, with "charts, maps and whatever visuals may be needed" and "batteries of communications equipment connecting Mount Weather with the White House and "Raven Rock" — the underground Pentagon sixty miles north of Washington — as well as with almost every US military unit stationed around the globe," according to The Progressive article. "All internal communications are conducted by closed-circuit color television ... senior officers and "Cabinet members" have two consoles recessed in the walls of their office."

Descriptions of the war games read a bit like an Ian Fleming novel. Every year there is a system-wide alert that "includes all military and civilian-run underground installations." The real, aboveground President and his Cabinet members are "relocated" to Mount Weather to observe the simulation. Post-mortems are conducted and the margins for error are calculated after the games. All the data is studied and documented.

* Civil Crisis Management

Mount Weather personnel study more than war scenarios. Domestic "crises" are also tracked and watched, and there have been times when Mount Weather almost swung into action, as Pollock reported:

"Officials who were at Mount Weather during the 1960s say the complex was actually prepared to assume certain governmental powers at the time of the 1961 Cuban missile crisis and the assassination of President Kennedy in 1963. The installation used the tools of its "Civil Crisis Management" program on a standby basis during the 1967 and 1968 urban riots and during a number of national antiwar demonstrations, the sources said."

In its 1974 Annual Report, the Federal Preparedness Agency stated that "Studies conducted at Mount Weather involve the control and management of domestic political unrest where there are material shortages (such as food riots) or in strike situations where the FPA determines that there are industrial disruptions and other domestic resource crises."

The Mount Weather facility uses a vast array of resources to continually monitor the American people. According to Daniel J. Cronin, former assistant director for the FPA, Reconnaissance satellites, local and state police intelligence reports, and Federal law enforcement agencies are just a few of the resources available to the FPA [now FEMA] for information gathering. "We try to monitor situations and get to them before they become emergencies," Cronin said. "No expense is spared in the monitoring program."

* Maintain and Update the "Survivors List"

Using all the data generated by the war games and domestic crisis scenarios, the facility continually maintains and updates a list of names and addresses of people deemed to be "vital" to the survival of the nation, or who can "assist essential and non-interruptible services." In the 1976 article, the "survivors list" contained 6,500 names, but even that was deemed to be low.

Who Pays for All This, and How Much?

At the same time tens of millions of dollars were being spent on maintaining and upgrading the complex to protect several hundred designated officials in the event of nuclear attack, the US government drastically reduced its emphasis on war preparedness for US citizens. A 1989 FEMA brochure entitled "Are You Prepared?" suggests that citizens construct makeshift fallout shelters using used furniture, books, and other common household items.

Officially, Mount Weather (and its budget) does not exist. FEMA refuses to answer inquiries about the facility; as FEMA spokesman Bob Blair told Time magazine, "I'll be glad to tell you all about it, but I'd have to kill you afterward."

We don't know how much Mount Weather has cost over the years, but of course, American taxpayers bear this burden as well. A Christian Science Monitor article entitled "Study Reveals US Has Spent $4 Trillion on Nukes Since '45" reports that "The government devoted at least $12 billion to civil defense projects to protect the population from nuclear attack. But billions of dollars more were secretly spent on vast underground complexes from which civilian and military officials would run the government during a nuclear war."

What is Mount Weather's Ultimate Purpose?

We have seen that Mount Weather contains an unelected, parallel "government-in-waiting" ready to take control of the United States upon word from the President or his successor. The facility contains a massive database of information on U.S. citizens which is operated with no safeguards or accountability. Ostensibly, this expensive hub of America's network of sub-terran bases was designed to preserve our form of government during a nuclear holocaust.

But Mount Weather is not simply a Cold War holdover. Information on command and control strategies during national emergencies have largely been withheld from the American public. Executive Order 11051, signed by President Kennedy on October 2, 1962, states that "national preparedness must be achieved... as may be required to deal with increases in international tension with limited war, or with general war including attack upon the United States."

However, Executive Order 11490, drafted by Gen. George A Lincoln (former director for the Office of Emergency Preparedness, the FPA's predecessor) and signed by President Nixon in October 1969, tells a different story. EO 11490, which superceded Kennedy's EO 11051, begins, "Whereas our national security is dependent upon our ability to assure continuity of government, at every level, in any national emergency type situation that might conceivably confront the nation..."

As researcher William Cooper points out, Nixon's order makes no reference to "war," "imminent attack," or "general war." These quantifiers are replaced by an extremely vague "national emergency type situation" that "might conceivably" interfere with the workings of the national power structure. Furthermore, there is no publicly known Executive Order outlining the restoration of the Constitution after a national emergency has ended. Unless the parallel government at Mount Weather decides out of the goodness of its heart to return power to Constitutional authority, the United States could experience an honest-to-God coup d'etat posing as a national emergency.

Like the enigmatic Area 51 in Nevada, the Federal government wants to keep the Mount Weather facility buried in secrecy. Public awareness of this place and its purpose would raise serious questions about who holds the reins of power in this country. The Constitution states that those reins lie in the hands of the people, but the very existence of Mount Weather indicates an entirely different reality. As long as Mount Weather exists, these questions will remain.

Is this Bush's secret bunker?

Mount Weather is a top-security underground installation an hour's drive from Washington DC. It has its own leaders, police, fire department - and laws. A cold war relic, it has been given a new lease of life since 9/11. And no one who's been inside has ever talked. Tom Vanderbilt reports

'Actually, you may want to just put those down a minute," Tim Brown is telling me, as I peer through binoculars at a cluster of buildings and antennae on a distant ridge. "The locals might get a bit nervous." A Ford F-150 cruises by, and the two men inside regard us casually as they pass.

We are sitting, hazards blinking, in Brown's BMW on a rural road in Virginia's Facquier County, a horsey enclave an hour west of Washington DC. The object of our attention is Mount Weather, officially the Emergency Operations Centre of the Federal Emergency Management Authority (Fema); and, less officially, a massive underground complex originally built to house governmental officials in the event of a full-scale nuclear exchange. Today, as the Bush administration wages its war on terror, Mount Weather is believed to house a "shadow government" made up of senior Washington officials on temporary assignment.

Following the collapse of the USSR, Mount Weather seemed like an expensive cold-war relic. Then came September 11. News reports noted that "top leaders of Congress were taken to the safety of a secure government facility 75 miles west of Washington"; another reported "a traffic jam of limos carrying Washington and government license plates." As the phrase "undisclosed location" entered the vernacular, Mount Weather, and a handful of similar installations, flickered back to life. Just two months ago, a disaster-simulation exercise called Forward Challenge '06 sent thousands of federal workers to Mount Weather and other sites.

Mount Weather is not hard to find. From the White House, we take Route 66 west until it meets Highway 50. Fifty miles later, we turn off on Route 601, a small two-lane rural feeder that snakes up a ridge. That road seems to be going nowhere until suddenly, at the crest, we come into a clearing, bounded by two lines of tall, shiny, razor-wired fencing, marked with faded signs that say: "US Property. No Trespassing." Behind sits a grouping of white aluminium sheds and a few cars.

We have arrived at the edge of the known republic. What lies beyond is obscured by Appalachian scrub and the inky black of government classification. No one has ever been allowed to tour the underground complex at Mount Weather and tell of what they saw. Occupying 500 acres of Blue Ridge real estate, it functions like a rump principality, with its own leaders, its own police and fire departments, and its own set of laws.

Mount Weather is more easily viewed from outer space than down the block. Earlier in the afternoon, I had been looking at grainy 1m-resolution aerial images of Mount Weather assembled by Brown, a national security researcher and aerial imagery expert. He pointed to small notches on the side of a hill (tunnel entrances), helipads, and a series of "military-style above-ground soft support housing". The mountain straddles the two entrances, he noted. "It's something like 200ft of shelter on top of you at the highest point."

Just driving round the perimeter of Mount Weather, you can see the traces of recent work. "See how they've obscured this," he says, pointing to the black sheeting threaded through a length of fence. "You used to be able to see the helipad through that fence." He gestures towards the new entrance. "Look at the truck barriers. When you turned, there'd be no time to build up speed. They got smart."

The changes to its exterior landscape - not to mention the gossip among local residents - are just one sign that that something very important has been going on at Mount Weather, a level of activity not seen here since the days when Eisenhower and his advisers trooped out here during drills. For some, this is a sign of prudent planning in a world where the security calculus has been for ever altered; for others, it is the symbol of an administration with a predilection towards exercising power in secret. As we pull away from Mount Weather, Brown says, "I wouldn't want to be driving a rental truck and have it break down in front of the gate."

Mount Weather first caught the American imagination on December 1 1974, when a Dulles-bound TransWorld Airlines 727, struggling through heavy rains and 50mph winds, crashed into the top of the mountain, less than a mile and a half from the site. The crash briefly severed the underground line linking to the Emergency Broadcast System, and teletype machines in news offices across the country began spitting out garbled transmissions.

The story might have died there. With Vietnam and Watergate in the air, however, the words "secret government facility" did not exactly induce a frisson of patriotic glee. The Progressive, in 1976, published an article, entitled The Mysterious Mountain, which said Mount Weather, a place little known even to Congress, was home not only to a replica mini-government, but to files on at least 100,000 Americans. In 1991, Time published the fullest exposé, describing (based on conversations with retired engineers) a sprawling underground complex bristling with mainframe computers, air circulation pumps, and a television/radio studio for post-nuclear presidential broadcasts.

What information has emerged about Mount Weather has always been rather sketchy. At some point in the 1950s, however, it seems that a drilling experiment into the mountain's rugged foundations of Precambrian basalt was turned into an exercise in underground city building, with the army corps hollowing out of the "hard and tight" rock a complex of tunnels and rooms with roofs reinforced by iron bolts.

The base formed part of a "federal relocation arc", an archipelago of hardened underground facilities, each linked by a dedicated communications system and equipped with amenities ranging from showers to wash off nuclear fallout to filtration systems capable of sucking air clean down to the micron level. The sites, staffed by "molies", were spartan steel-and-concrete expanses, subterranean seats of power: the president could repair to Mount Weather; Congress had its secret bunker under the Greenbrier Hotel in West Virginia; the Federal Reserve had a bunker in Culpeper, Virginia; the Pentagon was given a rocky redoubt called Site R in the mountains of southwestern Pennsylvania; while the nation's air defences were run out of Norad's (North American Aerospace Defence Command) Cheyenne Mountain facility. "The nuclear age has dictated that these men carry out their responsibilities inside a solid granite mountain," wrote the defence command.

Mount Weather's secrecy was never absolute. In the 1957 novel Seven Days in May, the authors referred to a shadowy facility called Mount Thunder, all but revealing its location. Driving around those Blue Ridge byways today, a curious mixture of secrecy and openness still prevails. On Route 601, an Adopt-a-Highway sign is sponsored by employees of the Mount Weather Emergency Operations Centre. But pull off toward the entrance of that facility, and things get a bit strange. Looking for the home of a local resident, I hail an exiting Mount Weather employee. As we begin to chat, cars side by side, I suddenly hear a strange, siren-like sound and notice that a black SUV has loomed into my rear-view. The occupant, wearing sunglasses, hastily points me in the right direction.

This contradictory world of sunshine and shadow is at one with the parallel nature of the facility itself. On the one hand, it is, as Fema describes it, "a hub of emergency response activity providing Fema and other government agencies space for offices, training, conferencing, operations and storage". Less discussed is Mount Weather's obliquely assumed status as one of the key "undisclosed locations" of the Bush administration. "Look, there are two Mount Weathers - there's the Fema one and the Mount Weather one," says John Weisman, a writer of military and spy thrillers and a neighbour of the facility. "I wouldn't be at all surprised if [the vice-president, Dick] Cheney had been here before, and if [the secretary of defence, Donald] Rumsfeld had been here before, because they were part of some hugely sensitive stuff that was going on in the 1980s."

Weisman is referring to a series of classified programmes, described by the journalist James Mann in The Rise of the Vulcans, in which Cheney and Rumsfeld were said to be "leading figures". According to Mann, the resurgence of tensions with the Soviet Union during the Reagan administration lent new urgency to "continuity of government" programmes. With a secret executive order, and an "action officer" in the form of Oliver North, top officials pondered such constitutional quandaries as whether it would be necessary to reconstitute Congress following a nuclear attack (the answer was no).

On September 11 2001, Mann writes, the long-dormant plan was activated, and any number of top officials - possibly including Cheney himself - were shuttled to Mount Weather.

Residents on the mountain did not need to read the newspapers to discern that something was going on there. Joe Davitt, a retired civil servant who lives in a small A-frame house a mile or so away, told me that on September 11 2001 his wife was returning home from Florida. At the bottom of the hill, he says, she was stopped by state troopers, who asked for identification. At the facility itself, he says, "The Mount Weather guards were not only armed, they had their guns in firing position." John Staelin, a member of the Clarke County Board of Supervisors, says that on September 11, the county's 911 line received a call from an agitated local woman. "She said, 'I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, but the whole mountain opened up and Air Force One flew in and it closed right up. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes.' So they said, 'Yes, ma'am.' "

Whatever else, Mount Weather makes for an interesting neighbour. "My God," says Davitt, as we sit on his back porch, "they put a plough up there at the first forecast of snow. They've always been good at keeping the road ploughed."

"We call our house ground zero," says Weisman. "This mountain has its interesting moments, between the helicopter flights and the people coming and going." Where for years "Mount Weather was nothing but a sleepy little byway", Weisman complains that the post-9/11 security adjustments have only served to draw attention to the facility. "It now says, 'Boy, am I important!' "

The local people are, by and large, perfectly happy to talk about Mount Weather. Sometimes, however, a veil of secrecy descends. When I asked about Mount Weather at the Daily Grind coffee shop in nearby Berryville, a woman smiled nervously and told me one woman she knew saw "missiles" being taken there. I was forwarded an email from a mountain resident (with the .mil domain that suggests a military background) that contained complaints about late-night helicopter flights, as well as recent episodes of nocturnal machine-gun fire and even a "massive explosion" that had shaken the house. My email seeking further comment received an immediate, terse response demanding that the sender not be associated with the story.

Inquiries to Fema yield little more light. "There's been a general upgrade of security at all federal installations around the country, and Mount Weather is one of them," says spokesman Don Jacks. "I answered your question in a very general way. We're not going to talk about Mount Weather, period. It's not that I can't, we just don't."

A request to talk to Reynolds Hoover, the director of Fema's Office of National Security Coordination, dies on the vine. And forget about James Looney, Fema chief at Mount Weather. "To talk to Mr Looney you would have to talk about Mount Weather," Jacks reminds me. "And we don't talk about Mount Weather."

One afternoon, I went to have lunch with Jim Wink at the Horseshoe Curve, a saloon tucked away near the hamlet of Pine Grove. It has been the unofficial canteen of Mount Weather for as long as anyone can remember. "I've seen Seabees [members of the US Navy Construction Battalions] come out of the tunnels at the end of the day and come down to the bar for a few beers," says Weisman. A Comanche pickup in the parking lot has a bumper sticker that says Terrorist Hunting Permit.

"I checked you out last night," Wink says by way of introduction. "So did Ray." He's talking about Ray Derby, a former Mount Weather employee whom I had visited the night before, who has suddenly appeared today. Wink, an Irish-blooded South Philadelphian with a tight smile and a steely, penetrating stare, does not seem like a man of whom you would like to run afoul. A retired counterterrorism expert with stints in the CIA, the Secret Service and any number of other agencies, he seems to have been in every place in the world at the most politically sensitive time. He was one of the last several hundred US personnel in Vietnam in April 1975, until he heard the song White Christmas - a coded message to get out of the country.

His office is filled with memorabilia culled from the more occluded arenas of US foreign policy; there is a plaque signed by the team tracking the Shining Path leader, Abimael Guzman, in Peru; a collection of Wink's identity cards from various intelligences agencies around the world (he's wearing sunglasses in most of them); and, among other souvenirs, a photograph of the slain drug lord Pablo Escobar. "There's your richest man in the world," he says, handing me a snapshot of a bloated, blank-eyed corpse. "He did not die a good death."

There's a Vets for North sticker on one wall, and, on another, one that says: "Even My Dog is Conservative."

Wink came to Mount Weather in the 1980s. "I needed a training facility and they offered a great deal up here."

When he came with the Secret Service one day to the Curve for a beer, he met his future wife, Tracee, whose grandfather had owned the bar. "Cheney and Rumsfeld, they've been here," he says, gesturing to the bar. "And Ollie. We all worked here together years ago. She can even tell you what they drank." His eyes shift toward his wife, behind the bar. "When I used to run exercises we'd bring 1,000 people," he says. "Most of the things we did, they didn't let 'em off the post." He talks vaguely of one training exercise. "We had to do the psychology of being locked up," he says. "We started with submarines."

There have been curious visitors to Mount Weather from the start, he says, including the Russians. "The State Department, in their infinite lack of wisdom, allowed the Russians to have a R&R center on the river here, right below Mount Weather." The Curve, which sits off an entrance to the Appalachian Trail, attracts wayward visitors. "One hiker came in and said he was hiking all the facilities. Said you could get closer that way. He was trying to find out a little too much."

Local people, Wink says, like to help Mount Weather maintain its low profile. "They won't talk about it," he says. "As a matter of fact," he says, fixing his eyes on me, "you might meet a local cop if you ask too many questions about it. Many of the men around here served in the second world war," he continues. "Consequently they don't discuss those things."

I had encountered a similar line of thinking the night before from Derby, a long-time federal emergency coordinator and civil defence officer who is now retired and living in nearby Winchester. "All the employees of Mount Weather have always been told, rightly so, that no matter what someone asks you, just don't say if it's true or not true. Just ignore the question. You'll get that if you ask," says Derby, a chain-smoker with neatly Brylcreemed hair who drinks what he calls "martoonis" out of a tumbler. His office, in the upstairs of his split-level suburban home, is filled with various presidential commendations, as well as a photograph of what looks like a emergency conference room.

"I designed that," he says, peering through a dense curl of cigarette smoke, "but I can't tell you where it is".
